| More questions from the newbie!! FOOD...
so, I have been dying to ask, but fighting it because I am trying to think about healthy options...
But the truth of the matter is, that food does matter to me--- A LOT... or else I would not be on this forum!
So, here are my silly food questions-- Post bypass (and I know everyone is different):
Can I eat:
pizza, tacos, burgers, hotdogs, BBQ sauce, spicey seasonings, ketchup, mustard, soda, hot or iced coffee, hot or iced tea, pastas, cheeses, breads, steak, mushrooms, baked beans, string/green beans, asparagus, corn, lettuce, tomaotes, butter, olive oil, wine, chicken (fried or other), pork, gravy, marinara sauce, potatoes, rice, onions, garlic, salt, black pepper, sugar or sweetners, tomatoes, lemmons, OJ, seltzer, cake, ice cream, italian ices, half&half, yogurt, whip cream, nuts, chocolate!!!!!!
What are for sure, NO- No's?
What will my new favorite foods be like?
What are the vitamins/minerals I MUST take and how will I take them- pill/liquid/shot?

This is hard to answer. Some of us can tolerate sugar and some of us cant so in terms of anything on the list containing sugar, you MAY NOT be able to tolerate it. i think that touches on just about everything on your list lol! (joke)
You are not supposed to drink carbinated beverages. there are limits to the foods you can eat within each stage post op and to be honest your tastes change. You may not even crave those things on your list. For example: I was big on frosted cakes. I have NO DESIRE to eat any type of cake right now. I actually crave protein; meats etc. It's wierd.
I believe that once you are far enough out, you can have anything in moderation, but by anything I mean anything your new stomach will tolerate. We somtimes find that what we want is not what our stomach wants lol! You also have to remember that this surgery is a tool. It is not the cure for fatness. So please dont think you could eat all that and still lose or stay thin. Changing your habbits is key here.
You will need to take a multivitamin everyday for the rest of your life. You start off with chewable and when your dr says its ok you can take regular pills.
You will need to take calcium supplements for the rest of your life. Either those softchews like viactive or capsules.
You will have to take b12 for the rest of your life. Usually sublingual (under the tongue dissolving pill) is recommended.
Hope this helps

| I LOVE this forum!!!!!!!! Thanks so much for all the detailed info
I feel that the day I joined this forum (yesterday) was a life changing event for me. I did not feel this sense of "friendship" on other forums.
Everyone on here seems like a family. I want to meet so many ppl from here!!
I am in Port Jefferson, NY--- I live right next to the ferry to Bridgeport, CT and am just a car ride form the ferry to New London, CT.
Soooooooo-- it would be easy for me to meet ppl from LI/NY as well as CT, and even to drive as far as NJ, PA, MD!!
We should have a get together... I have NEVER met ppl that truly understood what I go through with food- until now.
It's sad... if I were a druggie or drunk, ppl would understand it and have empathy--- but a druggie can stop the drugs and a drunk can put down the drink-- but a food addict can't stop eatting. Quote:

The one diffrence with food addiction as compared to other addictions, is that you can't do without it--you need food to survive, and your brain is so used to using food to sooth your feelings that even if you keep the amount to what you need for survival, your brain craves. Surgery does seem to change some of this circuitry, especially the hunger recognition cycle. While you are on your optimum weight loss period after surgery, you will need to rewire your food-brain circuit. In other words, change from "live for food" to "food to live".
Bascially, there are no no-no foods, so long as you can keep them in moderation. But it may turn out that some things you will not be tolerate after surgery, develop conditions like lactose intolerance, or get dumping from sugar or sugar alcohols, in which case, you will have to avoid them. Some types of food may not agree with your pouch post op, and others, you may end up not enjoying the taste at all, much to your surprise. You probably will find that you enjoy things you didn't like, pre-op.
So, finding out what you can and can't eat, will be trial and error, plus, what works for others may not work for you.
You may not like how this sounds, but think of it as your body trying to keep you in line, so you can get the most out of weight loss surgery.
((((HUGS)))) Keep those Qs coming, it is for the best for you to be armed with plenty of info when making your decision. Whatever you decide to do, is your decision and yours only, so, when you make that decision, be sure that you are armed with as much information as you can gather.
Good luck in whatever you do!

| Yuppers!
Kenyar and Doc said it all. It is basically a trial and error with anything you put in your mouth afterwards. I cannot do yogurt for some reason now, and I could eat it before. Mostly everything else I can eat. Strange also, before my surgery, you would catch me eating any form of pork, except for ham. Now, I can't get enough of it. I LOVE IT! The same goes for liver. I don't have that often, but it is one of those disgusting, don't ever want to eat foods, before surgery. Now, I actually like it. Strange huh? The big thing is sweets, or chips. As a matter of fact, just today, for the heck of it, I bought a bag of Gardettos snacks. I at a few handfuls, and gave the rest to my kids. I didn't even like the taste of them, and before surgery. Well, let's not go there. Yah, if you would have bought stock in the Gardettos company before my surgery, you would be a rich woman today. lol Just wait, and see that little things that change in your life. That is one of the things that makes this journey very very interesting. Hope to get to know you better with your posts. mike

Well you can eat most that stuff just in smaller portions. Of course we all get different intolerances. ONE thing you will note most of Dr. AHMADS patients tolerate all foods fine.
ITs a random if you will be a dumper from sugar. I believe the statistics
i have read are 60 dont dump and only 40 percent doo. THE only time i get sick from sweets...is when i have them on an empty stomach. IF i am coated with a meal i seem to not react.......I didnt mess with sugar and carbs my first 12 months during the honeymoon of looseing times...but did later i first got the bulk of my weight off eating the way Dr. AHmad suggests. Start by eating your protein, then have few mouthfuls of veggie
and if u have room maybe a mouthful of too of the other side dish. I never had room past my protein for the other stuff........
GOOD LUCK and as i usually say this surgery repaired my birth defect....
and i now eat like normal women NORMAL PORTIONS. PORTIONS were a big
problem for me that this surgery has fixed
hugs
HOW was the support meeting last night?? My youngest is pretty sick this week so there was no way i could leave him he is very cranky, needy and very off!
