I have a question, Lately I have been noticing that I have been getting tingling sensations like when you foot is falling asleep. I get this when I sit on the toilet (sorry) and not for long periods of time but my legs and my feet start tingling really bad, they never fall asleep but they go crazy. Also in my hands and my wrists, I thought maybe it might be corpal tunnel but it just popped up all of a sudden. My question is could this be a side effect of surgery or anesthesia? Roz

I would talk to your surgeon on that matter. I have tingly numbness issues and they checked my blood work, put me on a NASCOBAL and b complex vitamins. STILL have issues and started with a nerologist but havent made it back after more appointments. NEEDS to be addressed!!! sorry to say (((HUG)))))

Hi Roz, You might want to check with your doctor/surgeon and maybe request a new blood work . It looks like you will be coming up on 3 months. B12 effects your nerves and will cause tingling sensations and/or numbness if your levels go too low. My blood work at 3 months showed that my B12 levels were very low and I then started with suppliments and in time had to go for monthly shots. I was told that this might happen and is very commn with the bypass patients. Your doctor might sudgest something else and there might even be more sudgestions here too from others who might be having some of the same symptoms. Keep in touch with this though, there is always something new I would not mind knowing about myself. The shots are not bad but then if there is something better out the then i will be trying it. It is good to catch this early before your levels go tooo low. Keep us informed on what you decide. robbin

I have heard of this ALOT in my group! In fact one of my members has it sever, and is unders a doctors care, and they are trying to find the cause. At first we (as a group) thought it was a copper thing, but several members were checked for copper and those tests came back normal, maybe Zinc? We're not sure, but we do know that is does have something to do with the surgery.

Another issue to be considered, other than the ones already discussed, is back issues. Since you've been carrying a large amount of weight for a long time, your spines and the disks inbetween the spinal bones may have suffered some damage. Since the nerves to our body travels through the spine and diverts to the rest of the body through small openings, displaced disks and degenerative bone disease can put pressure on these nerves and cause tingling or numbness. So, you should talk about this with your surgeon and/or your PCP, and have tests run on 1) all the vits plus calcium plus all the minerals and salts as well 2) see a neurologist 3) see an orthopedic surgeon to have your back bones checked out. Also, it could be the result of a combinations of things, which, each by itself normally doesn't cause anything apparent, but combined, could cause somthing that is very visible. (((((HUGS))))

I had that too and just talked to the surgeons office last week. They told me to keep a log of when and what I was doing when it happened. My issue with the tinglying was in my arms and writst. then they also ordered my blood work and just got word that ok. they had thought it might be the B12 but it was fine and so was my iron. My potassium was actualy low. So now Im working on getting that back up. Getting a banana in once a day for that. but yes mention it to your doctor. Of course now that i mentioned it to my doctor, it hasnt happened again. |
