Question Is it too soon for salads?

I never have cared for salads...but I have been craving them so much. SOOO right now as I type I em enjoying a chicekn and lettuce, tomato and red pepper salad with Red Pepper & Sun Dried Tomatoes Dressing. It is sooooo good. I have two books that say yes and the othe say no about having salads before 6 months. I am 12 weeks out. How is everyone else dealing with salads and what kind?

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Sorry to say that at 10 mos out I still cannot have lettuce without really feeling/getting sick. Not as badly or as quickly as before, but still don't handle the lettuce well at all.

Well, my paperwork said wait til 6 months but to be honest I've had a leaf or two here or there. I think the only issue is the possibility of gas, but if its cut up small and you chew very well i dont see any other issues....i'm dying for a salad myself but i know a whole servig might push me over the edge lol.

I started eating salads about 3 mths out and never had an issue with them. Just had to make sure that i cut it up well and chewed well....My recomendation is follow what your surgeon says....always your best bet..
Good luck.

I was allowed to have salad starting at 7 weeks. I've been eating them regularly since then and have never had a problem. Your salad sounds yummy. I'm going to have to try that combo.

SALAD is an item everyone does different with...
took me till year and half out to not puke my lettuce
and i have learned only romaine lettuce..iceburg
dont do well. I at first thought it was me not chewing
it up enough but it wasnt!
I would try and see what happens, as with all
foods we are all different!
GOOD luck and let us know how you do

thanks ladies, I did try my salad and had a little over 1/2 cup. No problems at all and it was so good and so cold and I ate it slowly and chewed it well. I am just nervous as to whether to make it a regular part of my diet. But for someone who didn't eat salads before ,it was actually good and refreshing. Thank you all for the input.

Hi Donna, you and I are surgery buddies--Mine was on Mar. 29, 2007--I also have had no trouble with salads, but I guess each of us is different, so everybody do as your Dr. says!!

I agree with everyone else, I can have salads and don't have a problem with them, my nut just warns me to make certain I get my protein in first.
