Wink Too old??

Hello,
I'm a newbie here today and I have two questions. I am just at the beginning stage of all this as I will go to my first seminar next week. I am determined to have gastric bypass and have been considering it for some time. However, I am 54 and I'm wondering if there is anyone else on this site near my age who has had this surgery? If so, how did it go for you?
I thought I was too old, but met a man recently(an angel in disguise, maybe!) who had his bypass at 60 and did great.
Also, I'm wondering if anyone here is from north GA and has used the bariatric center at Lanier Park Hospital? I'm thinking about going through Obesity Solutions in Gainesville, Ga. as I've heard they are excellent.
Thanks and I look forward to learning and sharing more here as I go through the process.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.
There are a number, more than a few, who are in their 50s here, who've had WLS, already have a date and waiting for it, or are waiting for approval and date.
Basically, how your health is, will factor in more than your age for the majority of the surgeons. If your overall health is good, even if you have comorbidities, youre general physcial condtion and function is what is expected at your age level, then surgeons will at least consider doing the surgery. Other factors will be, how well will you be able to adapt to the new lifestyle you need to develop, and how long you can expect to live--as in, can you imagine someone 90 years old having this surgery? In that case, would his/her life expectancy and quality of life be worth what this surgery entails? That kind of age factor. Talk it over with your surgeon, as he/she's the one who'll do the surgery. At least, with those who are in their 50s, the surgeons won't turn you away immediately.

(((((((HUGS))))))) May your journey go well.

Nope you not to old. LOL Hello there im Vickie welcome to the boards. I think you will find other people here who will tell you there age and you will fit right in. Im 42. From the data the surgeon handed me was they do them on patients ages 18-60. I know they have did them on older and younger also. They are the real specialist that perform these. I know the age wont be the durturent...... only a severe medical problem.

I had Roux-n-y gastric bypass at 54 (nearly 55) and it has been GREAT! I am down 165 lbs, 20 inches off my waist, 4 off my neck. I can walk again!! I was never floppy fat (years of weight lifting and martial arts, I guess), so I don't have a lot of hanging skin.
I HIGHLY recommend you have the procedure, unless your Dr. tells you you have a medical reason not to.
