Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | im having my surgery on 7/16 and im wondering when i come home from the hospital i know the rules about drinking water (2 oz. every 15-20 minutes). but if you have to consume 60-70 oz of protein a day wouldnt i be sipping this all day instead of the water. how does this work and how much should i buy for when i get home? also what do you think is better the shakes or the drinks? wouldnt the drinks be less filling so i will be able to consume more as needed? |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Hey Boots, Well I think all the surgeons are different. My doctors rule of thumb was no more than 8oz in an hour in the begining. And just to be honest I had a hard time getting in all my protein at first. But slowly I was able to up the amount I had. I would use Slim Fast low carb/high protein shakes and then also I would use the carnation instant breakfast drinks too that were high in protein and it had no surgar added. I know alot of the other people on the boards used different stuff too. Like I said, I think it depends on your surgeons office. |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I Was Told I Have To Get Between 15-20 Grams Of Protein With Each Meal For A Total Of 60-70 Grams Per Day. Which Seem Like Alot. So It Seems Like I'll Be Sipping This All Day. When Will I Have Time For Water? |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | wait. 60-70 grams of protein a day not ounces. It is VERY confusing I know lol. 64 ozs of fluids per day seems to be the norm. True indeed it depends on what your dr says. I'm sure they will give you a list of what to drink and when. They'll also suggest shakes and what have you. ( i had a hard time getting it all in... and still do) |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | let me give you an example. my meal plan for when i first got home was alternating 4 ozs of shake and other fluids. 8 am 4 ozs of shake, 9 am 4 ozs diet snapple, 10 am 4 ozs shake.....etc. this went on from 8 am until 8 pm. of course i couldnt ever get in all 4 ozs of either lol. but i guess this type of schedule maximized the possibility of getting in all i should have.... |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Think of the protien (grams) as a power that has to be mixed in a fluid (ounces). You can put a whole lot of grams of powder in just a small amount of water and end up with a paste, or add a little more water and it's like a gravy, or add enough so that it's liquid. You can get a lot of grams per ounce. (I had to figure this all out to be a paramedic ;o) |
