| More insane questions by me So, I have made a doctor's appointment with my primary care to start exploring this at long last. I've been waffling about it for about two years now and I'm finally ready to take the next step, knowing I can back out at any time prior to surgery. The good news is that I think hubby and I are going to do this together. Now, more of my control freak questions. Please understand that the only surgery I have ever had in my life was to have my tonsils removed when I was like six, so the thought of surgery scares the bejezus out of me. How did you all feel when you woke up and during the next twenty four hours? When did you feel the worst post-surgery and why? Was there a lot of pain? I know it is going to vary on the person, so I know answers will be different. Also, and this one is kind of weird...I have not been thin since again, I was like six. I have no idea what it feels like and can't imagine it. Can you actually feel the difference in what you are carrying on your frame or is it just more of a look in the mirror, see the difference thing? I know I'll have a ton more questions so please bear with me. I've been exploring here and over on obesity help and learning a lot!

When I first woke up, I did not even realize that I had gone through surgery, it was fine. The next 24 hours I spent sleeping and that was that.
I have lost over 50 pounds and it feels the same to me but I see the difference in my clothes.
Hope this helps.

| Thank you for the responses so far! One more thing I just thought of...that whole hair loss thing. I have VERY thick hair (my beautician hates to perm me for this reason!), so will I maybe notice a little less of that? I lose a good bit in the shower everyday as it is but I'm hoping that maybe the more hair one has, the less one will notice a loss after surgery!

I too am a "newbie". I have the same things running through my head right now. My husband and I are doing this together as well. Instead of wondering what it will be like to be thin (heavy since 5 years old here), I am actually scared of being thin because I dont know what its like. My three biggest concerns are being able to get all my vitamins in and keep them down, hair loss, and excess skin. So do not feel alone in all these concers--I am right there with you. I have found in the past couple of days that there is a ton of info on this site and EVERYONE seems extremely helpful.

HI KNITTERGIRL!!!!
Welcome to the forums...
and wonderful questions....
YOU ask about the feeling thin issue.
I have battled my weight all my life...
up and down...
looseing regaining ...
but most the time over weight.
SO i have to say im 143 lbs down from the surgery
but the thing is i dont see myself thin.
THEY say the brain has to catch up but mine still
hasnt. I wear size 8 stretch jeans but i dont feel thin.
SO im not sure but i know im healthy.
I know i am not 310 lbs....
so who knows.
When i first woke up in recovery i was surrounded by nurses checking all my vital signs and my surgeon telling me everything went text book perfect. THEY also at that time immediately taught me how to use my pain pump if i felt pain....i was a little grogy but knew were i was.
ONCe i settled in my room....thats when they wanted me to begin some
walking......I pretty much felt better then i figured.....
THE hair issues for me....
Well i took this phase hard. I always took pride in my hair....
and it was very thick.....you dont actually go bald but there were
spots that were pretty thin and my scalp was showing horribley.
I followed all my hair dressers rules during this time ...didnt color my hair, no poneytails and got thru it. ITS growing back now and you would never knwo a year ago it was sooooo YUCKY,thin and comeing out.
AS far as pain...in this area everyone deals and seems to have different pain levels. SURE i had some pain but i also didnt like crushed pain meds so i weaned myself off them fast. FOR me the liquid tylnol was to sweet
and i couldnt even get taht down so i managed each day got easier.
HOPE that helps!
AND i look forward to getting to know you thru your posts.!
