Default band vs. bypass

i know most of you have had the bypass, but i am wondering if there is anyone out there that has had the band?? what has your experience been?? i am in my pre-op stage and have to finish my 6 month diet first so i am still deciding what to do. i originally when into my 1st meeting with the doctor wanting the band--she suggested i do the bypass cuz that is what my husband is having. we originally were both going for the band and then he switched on me. the thought of the bypass is making me sick to the stomach--i keep trying to read more about it and talk myself into it but so far not going well.

thanks for any info,

beth

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Default Hello bac!

Well, I can only say that the decision will be all your in the end. We can offer information to you gladly, but you make the final decision. I had open incision RNY and don't regret it. I also, know people personally, that have had the lap, and are doing great. All you really can do is alot of research, and go from there. The decision may not be an easy one, but the rewards of whatever you end up having done, are HUGE. We are all here for you though, in any way that we can be. We are one big happy losing family here. Good Luck with everything, and keep in touch with us. mike

Welcome, thank you for joining us.
Though he isn't around much, ousooner has had band. I think there are a number of Yahoo bandster sites, so try checking those out.

Both surgeries have their advantages and disadvantages so research well and weigh them. Only you can decide what to do, since this is your life and your body. There is no need to let your surgeon bowl you over, if you feel uncomfortable, try to seek a second opinion with another surgeon. You and your husband are two different people, so what method works best for you may well be different from what works for your husband.

(((((((HUGS)))))) May your journey go well.

Theres a few people in here that has had the band. Chuppy girl and Leanna's Limo I know did. I had the same decision you have now to make and I ended up choosing the gastric. Like Doc and Mike say its gonna be your choice. Make sure you talk to your Dr more about it and ask him the results he gets from his patients.

We are here behind you 100% in which ever procedure you choose. You might want to check with your insurance company and make sure they cover the band first. Most still feel its to experimental. So reseach it! LOL. You knew I was gonna say that didnt ya. Hope this finds you well.

I'm not sure who has had the band. I think Vickie's right when she says Lenna and Chuppy started out with it and both had the bypass or are awaiting bypass subsequent. I believe there is a gentleman on here who has had quite a bit of success with the band actually. His name slips my mind at the moment.
Ultimately please let it be a choice that you are sure of. If you are unsure or feeling pressured into it, please dont do it. You need to be 100% on board and ready to commit to the life changes as well as accept the possibility of consequences. It sooooo has to be your choice. Can't stress that enough.

Good luck on your journey and welcome to the boards!
