OK this might top out as the stupidest quesiton of all but I have to ask... I like to eat JUST a piece of meat for dinner. A 1/2 chicken breast or some stewed beef; something small because thats all that fits lol. BUT, today I added some watermelon cubes. It was so good. Never been a fan but for some reason I was craving it, so i tossed a few cubes in my plate next to my chicken. I'm concerned because we arent supposed to eat and drink at the same time. HOWEVER, watermelon turns to fluid at first bite. If I have watermelon after I eat my meat, would this be considered eating and drinking at the same time? ...just when i thought i was getting the hang of this....LOL! |

Thats an interesting question. I would think its a solid food so it would not be considered a liquid.

Personally i had that concern when i was eating SOUP, and asked my surgeon about cause that is a liquid with solid. AND he actually told me not to have to much soups cause it is breaking the pouch rules. I eat watermelon but never with my meal...i mostly have it as a snack... and i love on hot days!!! but i will say it fills me up real fast....

My doc told me watermelon has lots of sugar, i eat if for a snack. In the prevention magazine, this month i think, it says one wedge of watermelon is the equivalent to 1 cup of water or 9 oz. Lots of water! Its delish though! They said it was a way to help get fluids in.

Boots, although I'm not Lisa, I would think she is more so talking about it breaking the rules when you are eating solid foods. When you are fresh out, you HAVE to have something easy to go down. But I can see how it might break the rules when you are eating solids because it has the "liquid" effect. But ultimately, do what your Dr. says to do. I still don't understand why everyone has "different" rules, but the safest thing to do is what the Dr. orders!
