Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | i tasted them at a support meeting and post op they were FAR to sweet and strong tasting for my sensitive taste buds. ALSO i just dont feel we can possible absorb 40 grams of protein in one serving. I think there is a max we can absorb before the body processes as waste as is with any supplements we take. I know i been told if i took to much b complex my body would just pass on extra. JUST wish i could find the actuals on how much we absorb. BUT there out there... now speakin bullets .....were u talkin the protein drink or maybe the MAGIC BULLET the device that blends protein shakes, eggs and purees foods???? The Magic Bullet Blender - Official Website

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Did you know the bullet comes in a 25mg size. I have two of those in my fridge I was going to try. I was worried about the same thing so bought the smaller mg size and was going to try that and use is plus protein drinks.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I think there is a range. Ive been looking online. The funnything is while our surgeons all specialize in this procedure it isnt exact lol! the amount of feet bypassed of your intestines may not be EXACTLY the same as mine; which also explains why some of us dump off sugar and some dont???? Im confused after reading a bunch of articles online last night. I hope doc stops in to clarify..... to be honest, some of these protein supplements are VERY expensive and not created for bariatric patients.the majority were created for muscle men or weight lifters etc. when shopping around, look for something created/ geared towards us (bariatric patients) and you cant go wrong. i would assume that because unjury was created for people with a medical need for protein, that we can absorb somewhere around the equivalent of 20-25g at a pop. and even then that is taken in slowly over time because of the size of our pouchies. DOC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | well the BULLET protein drinks are sold on the top bariatric sites... but for me their pricey and no way early out could i stomach them. THAT could just me. I do think the 25 mg servings are more releastic to what can be possibly absorbed in one meal. I think even my surgeon said that when i count my protein never count any meal as more then that or your cheating your requirements of protein. THATs proly also why i never claimed more then 25 at any one meal weather a snack or meal.

| Super Moderator | For the explanation on dumping, check out the article I have linked in the following thread. Bariatric Surgery: Postoperative Concerns. That said, dumping isn't specific to gastric bypass for weight loss, it can happen to any person who's had surgery to remove part of their stomach for a variety of reasons like cancer, perforated ulcer, as a result of abdominal injury, etc etc. It's caused by the rapid passage of the carbs into the intestines from the stomach--hence, the smaller your "stomach" is, the more likely you'll get dumping. The length of the bypassed intestines determines the degree of malabsorption, especially fat. In other words, the longer the bypassed intestine is, the more severe malabsorption will be. So, the distance of the bypass will be determined by the surgeon according to 1) how much weight you need to lose 2) how long your instestine is 3) the experience of the surgeon--what length he/she is most comfortable with, in regards to the weightloss result, and the absorption/malabsorption of the essential nutrients that must be absorbed. As for how much protein can be absorbed in one sitting, I think it was around 25-30g, and though your intestine is bypassed, the amount isn't that much different as far as I know. The reason protein is stressed with gastric bypass post ops, is because the amount you can eat at one sitting is small, much much smaller than before, so you must concentrate on getting in the needed daily amount of protein, as there are many essential amino acids (particles that make up protein) that can not be made by our bodies. There essential amino acids, we MUST get from the outside world daily.
