Default Pain Levels - what's normal?

Okay, guys. Somehow I had it in my head this wasnt going to be a particularly painful event ~ perhaps a bit of objectivity will assist? Basically, I am starting my 5th day post op. Doing full liquids - or at least attempting to. Will work harder today on sipping water and ingesting protein. Basically, exercise is to get up- mostly unassisted - go to bathroom, walk around inside house - hotter than 40 blazes out there - sit uprght at computer for ~15-20 minutes. Doing leg exercises they gave for DVT prevention.Showering daily. My concern is that it really hurts to breathe deep even with pain meds. I'm doing the little breathing thing and keep the ball within the lines like Im supposed to but can only do about 10. Also, they have me on percocet which I am waiting to take at the 4 hour mark, sometimes laying in bed doing breathing and meditation exercises they taught us to help with pain in childbirth! So, what's the scoop? am I normal? I was not impressed by the surgical team and I really dont want to call them unless I have no choice - for all their reputation ~ I don't know, I guess I've worked in healthcare too long. Having said all that, I do feel a little stronger each day and all my "bodily systems" seem to be doing well. No sign of infection and BP has been good. Thanks for any comment.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

hon! don't expect so much out of yourself! You had major surgery whether it was Lap or Open...and yeah hon..it hurts and everyone is different in what they can tolerate. I have a very very high tolerance and by golly after wls open ..yikes I was taking the hydrocodone and everything possible just to begin to feel comfortable!

I swear though..in another 5 days..it's gonna be different! After my 2 lap surgeries after open wls I found I had a much tougher time with the breathing deep exercises....You definitely gotta gotta! do your breathing exercises!

{{{hugs}}}} it sounds like you are doing great!!!

ps...where I used to work there was a gal who got her boobs done and she just really! truly (and yes is blonde!) LOL thought she was gonna go back to work the very next day...omg!! crying & whining on the phone with her girlfriend at the job.. Somehow she was under the impression that plastic surgery didn't hurt ???

When I first came home, I was in pain, especially the left side. I found that the left side didn't give up until the 3rd week. My surgeon said it hurts the most because that is where they do all the work. Take it easy, don't try to do so much. Let yourself heal. Congratulations for taking this big step. I am a month and a few days out and I am so glad I did this. Now, if you would have asked me 5 days after surgery, I am not sure I would have been able to say I was happy. As for the breathing, keep on doing that thingy. I did it constantly. As long as you keep it between those lines, you are great. And yes, it hurt for me to deep breathe. You are doing fine. And don't be afraid to post any and all questions. I wish I could have gotten to my computer that first week.
