Question Has anyone ever heard of something called Impetigo?

Hello all,
I have been dealing with my lips being swollen and hurting for over three weeks now. At first (first week) I thought I was having an alergic reaction to the new lip gloss I was wearing, so I didn't pay it any mind because that has happened before. Second week I noticed it was something that looked like a core sore and it was very painful so I called my doctor and was told nothing he could do about it and to get some over the counter meds. This week I look a hot mess. My face is swollen, rash all over my chin, and lips look like I just got into a fight with Mike Tyson and he took his anger out on my lips. I woke up yesterday in a panic, so I insisted on seeing my doctor and he told me I had something called Impetigo. I never heard of this before and for the life of me don't know how I got it. My doctor said it could have come from an insect bite. This mess hurts but at least I have some meds now and a little breather from work because I can't go back until next week. So I guess that is the good part.

So I was just wondering has anyone else had this or even heard of it?

Thanks for listening to me whine....

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Oh yes. My son had it under his arm when he was 2. I forget the old name for it but it used to mean being dirty and not washing. When his peditrician told me the word it freaked !!!!! I said wait a min. I keep him bathed daily some times twice a day !!!! He laughed and told me to calm down. Drs. used to think it was from that until they were proven wrong. It can come from a small cut. Just a skin prick. A insect bite like you said. Numerous things.

Impetigo may develop after the skin is infected with GABS. The bacterium is usually acquired from skin-to-skin contact with another person with impetigo. Less commonly, impetigo may develop when open skin lesions (such as insect bites or burns) are infected following exposure to a person with streptococcal pharyngitis ("strep throat").

Its much more common in the summer and fall. Older people have a name for this and unless there educated they will give you a auful look. LOL Im just warning ya.

Treat it and enjoy your days off ! Oh by the way. You are contagious. No kissing honey since its on your face and I wouldnt do any makeup until it clears if you do. Using DIAL soap is a very good way to help treat it. I know its on your face and you may think that is harsh to place on your face but its antibacterial. Most Drs will tell you to use it. Most hosptials use DIAL for washing and Drs offices to. So its a good thing

When I was little I used to get it all the time. It spreads really easy. If I remember a cream (medicine) gets rid of it

Pretty common, actually, with small kids...the bacteria that causes it is the same as those that cause strep throat, and is around us everywhere.
The bacteria thrives in the blisters, so, you have to be careful not to let the water in the blisters onto uninfected surfaces, or it will spread.
Most times, your immune defenses are strong enough to to fight them off, actually, but sometimes, like when you are very very tired, it can go down just a wee bit, some things sneak in.
With the proper meds, washing with antiseptic soap, and taking care not to break the blisters, taking care not to spread the water when a blister breaks, even the worst ones should clear up in a couple of weeks.
(((((((HUGS)))))))

Thank you all. I will be staying indoors until this clears up. My doctor did say it most likely came out when I got sick a few weeks ago with a bad cold or some darn insect may have bit me. But I swear if its not one thing with me it's the next. Oh well this is one more thing to add to my list...lol
