Default help i am confussed

hello everyone. I am new to this site and I just wanted to tell you guys that I have enjoyed your stories and comments. My question is I am considering the banding becouse I have a problem with if something is going to go wrong it will with me, but then I hear the stories about not much weight loss and wish they had just done the by-pass first and I am confussed I will be paying for this my self and want to pick the right one first. I also have a problem with low blood sugar I am afraid that I will fill drained all the time if I do the by-pass. I am not a winny-ass although it sounds like it, if any one has any information or comments please let me know.I really want the by-pass, but I am scard!!!!!!!!!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Normal to be scared. I wanted the lap band in the beginning but insurance wouldn't cover the cost of it but would the by pass because its more long term. I 'm happy I went with the by pass now of course but was very scared too

I actually went to the surgeon with the lap band in mind. After discussing with her, I decided it wasnt quite for me. Here are my reasons:
  1. you have something protruding from your body (a circle thing where they can inject or remove saline)
  2. you only lose 25% of your body mass (national average)
  3. each time you fly, it is recommended that you have the saline removed
  4. I need to modify my behaviours. I have many years of poor habits that no matter what I do, if I dont change those, I will fail. With the lap band, you dont have to modify your behavior.
Of course, this was my interpretation of what my surgeon said to me. After talking to her about my history, goals, behaviors, etc... we both agreed that gastric bypass would be more appropriate for my situation.

My recommendation is to go armed with as much information as possible to your surgeon (research thoroughly surgeons) so that the two of you can make an informed decision. Only then will you not feel so frightened.

Regards,

Tina

Hi and welcome to the boards.

I went with the procedure my doc would be best for me and the health conditions I had. He thought the RNY would be best for me, so that is the choice I made.

Welcome to the board, thank you for joinng us.
If you have problems with low blood sugar, it's best to discuss your options with your surgeon.
There's also another type of surgery, sleeve gastroplasty, which might be one of the choices for you, if low blood sugar is a concern.

((((((HUGS))))) May your journey go well.

I agree along with what tina says. I too really thought I wanted the lap band but talked with my surgeon and he suggested the bypass. I can
honestly say I was scared to death too. I was afraid of something bad happening or me being that small percent and of the worst case scenario. I didnt want to leave my kids alone in this world or my husband. But then I was an accident waiting to happen. I could have had a heart attack at any moment or something like that. So after much soul seacrchingand etc.....I decided that the by pass was the correct choice for me.
Best of luck with your decision.

yep. i started out thinking about the band but got freaked out by the whole port thing and refilling it and what not. i also thought my body may reject it and i may have to have a second surgery to remove it...that would be just my luck. i wanted something permenant. something that would force me to change the way and what i ate. and the bypass was whats right for me i think. lol! im only 3 months out. its really something you have to research and look into and decide for yourself. dont go by stories of post ops, go to an actual info session with a reputable surgeon who can let you know what may work best for you in your current health situation. good luck on the journey

Welcome to the boards. I initially wanted lapband but after my consult with the surgeon and discussing my eating habits and such. Bypass was the best option for me.

I never had the band in mind I always new if i was going to go through with it was going to be the RNY or nothing. I new for me at 27 years old takeing 50mg of atanolol was not what i was needing to do. MY waight was out of control and i had to do something about it before it was to late.

I'm not going to sugar coat it though. I was scared I took care of everything and i folowed everything my surgen told me to do. I new when i went into surgey i had prepared myself and i was in the best of hands.
I will not lie though i also in case something did happen took care of everyting that needed to be done. I made shore i saw everyone gave them my blessings as they did I. I also told my husband if god for bid something happen i wanted a new elfit not something old form the house and my makeup and hair better look Banging. or i would come back and hount him for ever It sounds a little morbed not to scare you this is just what eased me. everything when't fine though and I have yet to get the new alfit

as with all my choses I left it pritty much in GODS hands and here i am today
