One of my aunt's friends had surgery back years ago (well over 10, probably 20 when it was still called stomach stapling). I think for the most part she's done just fine. She's gotta be 50 or 60 now.

i havent come across anyone. I think someone else posed this question and they were bombarded with a lot of negative information. if that happends in this thread please DO NOT let it confuse, distract or discourage you. I like to believe that post ops that far out are off enjoying their skinnyness or have forgotten where they came from and dont participate in support and arent visible. thats what i want to believe. you can tell who will keep up with the supplements and vitamins from the beginning. those who resist the structure will be the ones sick donw the road. who knows. i am sure in 10 years there will be some products to help us maintain nutrients way better than whats out there now. the perfect example would be to do an internet search for bariatric supplements. QUITE A FEW websites will pop up and im sure that wasnt the case 5 years ago when my friend had surgery. i showed her all of the info i was sent home with after my first seminar and she was astonished by how far the preparation, support, and info had come. tomorrow isnt promised either way so we have to focus on today. vitamins, protein and fluids, healthy diet and exercise today |

Honey the only thing I can tell you about that is they don't do it the way they used to. Cindy is right on the stomach stapling. I for some reason don't think they took the stomach apart like they do now. I know one lady....who had the what I call a straight tube done. They bypassed the intestines all together from what I was told. They all had to have a revision of this done because it caused so much trouble. AKA hooked it all back up. The lady I know and I am not kidding you......in the 6 weeks she was off from work gained 60 lbs. My mom was a large lady to and very short. My mom asked her one time how she stayed so skinny and she told us about her surgery. But she said you know ...........I have 6 full sized snickers bars a night and don't gain a ounce. It was about a year later she had to have it revised and that is when the weight just poured on. So I don't know if you will find a good statistic really on the Gastric Bypass part or not. Not the one they do now. They have literally changed it all. My surgeon wont do the lap band because he stated it was so much like the surgery's they did 5-10 years ago and he has had to revise just about all of them. Quote ( they just didn't work well). If you get a good answer to your question let me know. |

Opps forgot about the Vitamins and Minerals. Personally I would like to get them naturally. I mean we will have a plan to follow and a calorie count to not go over. This is what alot of people follow daily to keep there weight in check. Im not one to count carbs or fat. I will count my calories. WHY? look at a box of fat free stuff and low carb. Alot of times the calorie content will be much higher. Strange I think but its true. I have seen and heard so many Experts lately stating that if we watch the calories the rest falls in place. I think we all know how to eat healthier. We just need the tool to make us do it. |

CraigT, who hosts this site had his 10 year anniversary in May this year. Check out his weightloss story in his big band site. Also check out his Reflections of this journey in the main pages of the mother site. He's in good health because he's sticking to the program in every way. Of course he's had his bumps and humps, but that's something everybody, lean, medium, or stout has, not because you've had WLS in particular. He's very happy, why else would he start a site like this? (((((HUGS)))))

I personaly was never to interested in how people were 10 years latter. I kind of look at it this way. At 27 years old haveing to take blood pressure meds every day not being able to walk up a flight of stairs my back herting all of the time. I could die of a hart attack at any time. I was told to not have children because i would be such high risk. If GOD for bid something should not happen i know in my heart I left my life in GODS hands and I have done that from the start. You never know what the future will bring. But i know right now i have not slept in my own bed in almost 3 weeks my insides still pain me some times. I'm not back to work yet. but i feel better then i have felt in so long and its a beautful thing. I walk 3 miles a day actuly today i walked 3 quarters of a mile and JOGED a half mile. IM 3 WEEKS OUT I HAVE NOT JOGS IN OVER 7 YEARS LET ALONE A HALF MILE. you only live life once, If i lived my life worrying about what was going to happen to me 2months 6 months 10 years down the road. I would mis out on so much in the beauty of life. this surgery there is not one thing about it thats easy but you learn so much about yourself and life in general. For me I have such a great out look if complications were to arise i would tend to it as needed. If my time come i will know i made the best dession. I followed my heart and i left it in GODS HANDS! life is a beautiful thing with that take care and i wish you lots of luck there will be lots of bumps in the road but they are all what you make of them God BLess and take care ash
