Default Drain "hole'

Hi there! I had my surgery on July 25th. All went well and I feel pretty good. I had my drain pulled on Thursday August 2nd. At that time my doc said to keep it covereduntil it healed over which would take a couple of days. Well, it has now been 6DAYS and it still has drainage, It is sort of a pinkish drainage, enough to cover a 2x2 gauze pad twice a day. The site is still sore, but not particularily red. It is quite hard around the area (? scar tissue). The drainage is not foul smelling. Do you think it is infected How long did it take other people's "hole" to close up? Should I be contacting my doc for antibiotics? Or am I too anxious? ANy suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I think I would call and ask about the drainage. My doc glued my drain hole shut when he pulled it out and its almost totaly healed a week and a half out.

Yes, call your surgeon.
It could be the beginning of infection, so better safe than sorry.

I had two breast surgeries this year and the incisions drained for days and the first time it drained a lot and the surgeon said as long as it was reddish and clear it was ok. Some people just drain more but I would at least call and ask. I did the first time too. I thought I was getting an infection too. But as long as it doesn't smell and it's not pain full don't be a worry wort until you get to see the Dr.

I had the same problem of drainage. My surgeon said, when I called that it's nothing to worry about that it's just fat draining out and to just keep the area clean and covered and it will heal up on its own. I thought mine was getting infected but it wasn't. Anyway, mine took a little over 2 weeks to close up completely. But, it's always best to check with your doctor. For, it's best to be safe when it comes to our bodies healing..
