Hey everyone I have a couple of concerns if you can help.
I had GBP surgery on 7/19 and I'm now on phase 3 the semi-solids. When I was on phase 2 I was ok with drinking and eating. But, now I have a problem with eating meats like chicken, turkey and etc. I feel like its stuck in my throat & chest area and it's very uncomfortable. (I cut the meat up small and chew it into mush before swallowing) I have to end-up taking a couple of sips of water before it will go down. I feel nauseated after it goes down and I can't finish eating. This block is after eating only two bites. Is this normal or is there something wrong? I can drink all of my liquid but, food is a problem for me. Should I go back to stage 2 till I talk to my doctor monday or should I grind up all meats before trying to eat them? (I can't go with-out eating till monday so I'm kinda confussed.) I don't throw-up anything that I eat but, I sure do feel bad for over and hour or so afterwards. Please help if you can..

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

hi. sorry you are having difficulties.
ok two things. "the lump." i know it well. we were very good friends for some time. eventhough you are cutting up the food, are you chew chew chewing??

also, turkey, beef and tuna bring the lump back to my chest. it HAS to be moist. like for example, beef (grainy cuts like steak london broil etc) i HAVE to stew them. i cannot eat them plain, baked or grilled at all. for me i have to put them in gravy and cook them in a crock pot until they literally fall apart.

with poultry you could try stewing them in cream of mushroom or gravy and that might help. also take it VERY slow. you can tell first bite if its going to sit right or not. if you get the lump after the first bite dont swallow anymore until it moves. otherwise it will all just back up and be one big ball of "stuff" just sitting there.

meats are funny. you might be able to get them down today and tomorrow Mr. Lump returns. i hope this helps.

So what do you do? Do you just eat egg whites, drink protein shakes and consume dairy products? I tried making the meat moist last night and it still got blocked. I have been eating egg whites and using dairy like cheese & milk. Do you think I'll still get enough protein this way? Thanks for your help.

The first six months or so after surgery I couldn't tolerate meat at all, it is a little better now but meat isn't my best friend. I do eat some meats...it has to be really moist and not overcooked at all. Also, I have to be really careful to chew it very well...
