When I had mine done I was asleep the worst thing is the stuff they use to numb the back of your throat it taste like crap. AFter words your throat will be a little sore but I was back at work the next day. I had a stricture and you won't even feel the balloon part of it. They will put you under a little ways not all the way.

there completely painless and i totally slept thru the 2 i had! to wake and it all done. SORRY you have to have one but best to be sure you have no stricture developing! hugs i had nothing to numb my throat when awake everything was done once sleeping. I gather every surgeon is a tad different.

Boots, I'm pre-op but also had a stricture. I went to my PCP because I could feel the ice-water I was drinking getting caught in my throat and not going into my stomach. Wierd feeling! So they scoped me, found out I had a sliding hiatal hernia, and ulcer, and some stricture. I think what I was feeling was the water going up into the hernia (which is a part of the stomach oozed out through the hole that the esophagus goes through). They start an IV, give you something to relax you a bit, wheel you into the procedure room and get you laying on your left side and then they tell you "night, night" and the next thing you know you are back in your room. THe drug they give you has amnesiac qualities - so you can't remember the procedure. There was no pain, no soreness. I was a bit hoarse. THe funniest part is that you are not truely awake for awhile so you keep repeating yourself. |

I didnt have a stricture. FOR me i was scoped pre op as one additional pre op requirement to check out the condition of my stomachl. THEN when i was ill 1 year post op and throwing up coffee grinds i had to be scoped again and that was for a bleeding ulcer. SORRY i never had a stricture but know many that have. USUALLY takes a few dialations and all will be fine. Mostly board people i have heard had them. SOME reason my surgeon doesnt have patients with this issue with his technique.

I had a stricture and I made way more if it than it was. One morning, 2 months after surgery, I ate a scrambled egg for breakfast and it was fine. For lunch, I tried chicken and rice and it felt like it wouldn't go down all the way. Then it came back up. At first, I thought I ate too big of a bite, so I ate a smaller bite and chewed it up really well. No going, I threw it up, too. I could still swallow water and my vitamins. I drank liquids and ate mushy foods until I got to my surgeon's office the next day. Don't wait if food doesn't go down. It only gets worse. He talked to me and said I probably had a stricture. I was really scared. The prep took a lot longer than the procedure. They set up an IV and rolled me into the room. I remember them saying something like "Procedure started at 11:00". Then I woke up at 11:20 slobbering all over the pillow. It felt like I had a good 3 hour nap. I was quite loopy for about an hour, but then just sleepy. My throat was a little scratchy and my surgeon wanted me on liquids for 48 hours. I didn't have any other discomfort. I did have to have a driver and used it as an excuse to nap all day. It was on a Friday, but I could have gone back to work the next day. They told me a stricture usually happens in "younger" patients (I'm 41) because we heal faster. A stricture is when scar tissue heals over the opening to the pouch. Mine had just started which is why I could still eat liquids and mushy foods. If I would have waited, it would have completely closed and I wouldn't have been able to eat or drink. I hope this helps you. |

Thank You Guys For All The Info And Support. I Went To See The Doc Today Who Will Be Performing The Procedure. The Only Thing That Worries Him A Bit Is The Complications I Had Is In The Same Area If There Is A Stricture There. Most Likely He Should Be Able To Fix It If I Have One But If Not I Will Have To Go In For An Other Surgery Only Because He Has To Be Very Careful In That Area That Is Where The Absses/leakage Is And Still Healing. So We Will See. If I Find Out I Have To Go Back In The Hospital I Will Have A Nervous Breakdown. Im Not Kidding!!!!!!!! I Cant Go Thru This Again!!!!!!! This Has All Been To Much Already!!!!!!!!! I Know I Have Been Complaining Online Alot Lately Im Sorry To Be Such A Downer Guys But This Is All Just To Much For Me And Im Really Reaching The Edge!!!!!!! Oh Also He Said He Will Fill Me Up As Much As Possible With Fluids Thru The Iv Because I Might Be Becoming Dehydrated. I Havent Been Able To Drink Much Past Couple Days And My Urine Has Gotten Dark. |
