Default I want something bubbly....

I woke up this morning (my day off -go figure?) with an AWFUL cold! It feels like the flu! I have the worst headache, achey all over, sore throat and stuffy. So, my stupid question is....What would happen if I had a small glass of diet Sprite? That's all I can think about! Something cold and bubbly on my raw throat. Yes, I have sugar-free popcicles, water, crystal light, juice-just not cutting it! I've also taken some Tylenol Cold and Flu. I haven't had soda since before my surgery (4/24) and I just want to know if the worst thing that may happen is that it doesn't feel good in my pouch? Trust me, there won't be an cravings for bad foods-NOTHING sounds good.

Please let me know if anyone out there has been "naughty" and tried diet soda. I just want to know what your experience was....thanks!

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

i dunno...i just know its a pouch rule for me
from my surgeon and i havent tried any DIET
soda post op and im over 2 years out.
I dont drink coffee so diet pepsi for me
was an addiction big time.
I imagine the bloat and bubbles
would hurt a sensativie pouch ...

I know people that have had soda and didnt feel so good after. I have not had any since a month or so before my surgery. Its a personal choice on the foods we try post op however i would not recomend it.

Hope your feeling better.

i've had it. you can do without it honestly. you have NO IDEA the magnitude of the bubbles being that you havent had it in a while and all your innerds are rerouted. when i had it, it was just a sip and i shook the bubbles out (so i thought) and my pouch bubbled over, up my esophagus, into my throat and back out of my mouth ever throw up bubbles before? wierd and not pretty lol!...let's just say I was cured of wanting it at that point; you dont need it. i mean in all honesty i am sure it wouldnt "hurt" you as in damage anything but i dunno. personal preference i guess....

I actually just had an "informational meeting" with my Dr and the hospital where I am having my surgery and that was my question - what is SO bad about pop? I always thought it would cause a lot of "air" and cause farting and burping but infact that is no the reason according to them. The reason they dont suggest pop is because of the carbonation - it eventually stretches out your stoma and once that is stretched your food will go right through you and you'll be back to feeling hungry. people who drink a lot of pop after surgery they said will have a harder time losing because of the cause of the carbination. - weird huh! thats what i know - i am sure everyone has their own insight to it but that sure makes it bad enough for me not to want it!

Thanks for everyones input.... I really, really wanted the diet Sprite, but I decided against it. I guess I hope that it would hurt me, and the craving would be over. My luck is that it would feel fine, and a bad habit may be started. So, I will keep my throat cool with sugar-free popcicles and water.

Thanks everyone!

I am fighting this battle myself right now. I actually drank a small sip of my hubby's diet pepsi tonight at dinner and it was SO good. My pouch didn't hurt or anything, but I know, like Lisa, that once I get started, I will not stop.
But as for being sick, I would suggest putting it in the fridge over night or putting a hot diet sprite over ice? I know that is what I did with a sprite zero when my throat was hurting last week and although I didn't drink a lot, what I like about this surgery is I don't want a lot.

Default Just got back from the ER....

My throat would just not stop hurting, it got worse and worse. I also had my bf chek out my throat with a flash light, and he saw little white patches. So, I went to the ER (no urgent care in my area) and the doc took one look and said "that looks ugly!" Nice! He confirmed that it was strep throat and put me on liquid amoxicillan (sp?). I hope this gets better soon! The doc told me to stay home from work today (Sunday) as I am still contagious and can go back in Monday.

Just a question for everyone out there....I'm getting a little nervous about work with all the times that I have been absent the past year: my WLS surgery, the whole gall bladder isssue and days off for testing/ultrasound, and now this whole strep throat issue. I have doctors notes/documentation for each time I have been absent that I have given to my manager. Let's say my job decides to up and fire me because I've been absent so much. Does anyone know if becuase of the doc's documentation that I have, do I have any recourse?

I'm just getting a little nervous about the vibe I'm getting at work lately....

Aww, (((((HUGS))))
As for the job issue, I don't know how the law is in the US, but here, we have labor laws that says you can't fire a person for health issues and sick leaves that are within the regulation. Of course, your pay can be cut after a certain period of absence, but sick leave without pay is up to 2 years, if I remember correctly.
