Talking I'm new so may stupid ?

I was wondering about hair loss. Wasn't sure if this was the place to ask. Just signed up here. Anyway.. it's been almost a year since my by pass surgery and up til now have had no hair loss. However in the past 2 weeks I have gotten 2 bald spots on the side of my head and my hair is falling out in clumps. I used to have hyperthroidism, but just went to endocrinologist and amazingly my thyroid levels are now normal. I though I was getting enough protein because I didn't start til almost a year out. Is the bald spots a normal thing with the hair loss or should I be concerned. Any help would be great appreciated.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Ty. and nice to meet ya. It's got me a bit concerned. Guess the dermatologist will have to be called Monday. I'm a bit lost with this so I hope this goes thru right.

no it doesn't itch.. i was walking by the mirror and saw a white patch the other week and it was a bald spot about the size of a quarter. Now it has spread and I'm having to get created with my hairstyling. I have resorted to saving my hair, lol.. just in case I need to make a wig. I guess all that wishing several years for thinner hair for the mod hairstyles has come true.. only its not thining.. its balding. UGH!!

MMMM ..... im no expert at this by no means. I havnt had mine done yet but..... what your describing dont sound like hair loss from WLS. If its falling out like you said in patches. Go ahead and call a Dr whom ever can see you first and let them look at it. There is a name for this and they can treat it. I right now cant think of the name but it sounds more like that then the WLS.

that's what i was thinking too. i figured if i was going to lose my hair from the surgery, it would have happened within the first 3 months. I have looked everywhere and I found a picture of the alopecia arate (sp?) and the spots look like that. I guess I will have to call the dermatologist asap. Hopefully its not permanent. You guys are so nice.. Thanks for the input.

The type of falling out sounds familiar, it may be something called alopecia areata, but it's not related to WLS. Go ahead and get and appt with the dermatologist ASAP. Not to scare you, but it may take some time to come back. Also, stress seems to make it worse, so if you're having any stress in your life, you may need to find ways to relieve them.

ty for replying. I didn't think so either. I'll keep ya posted on what the doc says. I am having trouble with my protein lately. well with eating in general. If you had told me a year ago that I would pass up any meal or snack, i would have thought you were crazy.. now I have to practically force myself to eat. I am truely eating to live now.. but I think i'm a bit slack in the protein. Going to try harder. thanks again.
