I had the gastric bypass in June of 2007. I have an obstruction problem and have to have an endoscope. Has anyone had this done and how did it help or go after surgery?

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Welcome to the boards -- I have not had that issue, but there are a few folks on here who have gone through something similiar. I am sure they will be able to share their experiences with you. Hang in there, help is on the way!

Hi

The Obstruction Problem Is That An Other Word For A Stricture? Where You Have A Closing Inside Your Pouch And No Food Or Water Can Get Down?

If So I Have Had This Prob. Infact I Just Went For The Endoscope About A Wk Or A Little Longer Ago. Its No Big Deal You Wont Fee A Thing. You Are Asleep The Whole Time! Infact I Have To Go For An Other One In A Week In A Half. Somtimes You Have To Go More Than Once To Correct The Problem. They Stick A Camera Down Your Throat Find The Obstruction And Then They Dilate It With A Balloon To Stretch It Out And Open You Up Again. Believe Me It Doesnt Hurt At All!!

Any Quest About This Just Ask Away Since Im Going Thru It Now

I had it done about 2 1/2 months after surgery. I wasn't able to keep much down for about 2-3 weeks and alot of pain. The precedure went fine, I slept like a baby. My obstruction turned out to be a twisted lower intestine. Once my doctor went back in and straightened it out I was good to go--no problems since--Thank God. We all know that these things sometime happen, thank God the doctors can usually go back and fix these things, it's like a little KINK in the road, no pun intended. LOL

Also welcome to the boards, I think you will find it very helpful. Good luck to you, hope all goes well with the endoscopy, let us know ok? You'll do fine.

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.
Congratulations on joining the Loser's Bench.

Sorry to hear of your trouble, but it does sound like a stricture.
It's one of the most common complications post op.
Do a search through this board for the word "stricture" and you will come up with many threads discussing this.
Here's an example thread.
If it is a stricture, the dr who does the scope will insert a balloon and inflate it slowly to spread the opening that's gotten narrow.

(((((((HUGS)))))) May your journey go well.

Default Bonfire...

I haven't had any stricture problems but I have had a endoscopy done pre-op and like Boots said there's no pain at all. Your put under for a very short period of time and before you know it your all done.

Happy Losing,

Debbie
