Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Ok, I am due for my 3 month post op appt this Friday, Sept. 14. The last time I was there I asked for a B12 prescription and was told that we would wait and look at my blood work. OK. So, I called last week twice and left a message saying, "Do I need to get blood work done before my appt? If so, please send the orders to my PCP, here is the number, and let me know asap." Ok. So, I have not heard anything. I would really like to see my levels. I am worried about my iron because I remember there was a fear that I was anemic in the hospital. I also was taking 1500 mg of metformin before surgery for my PCOS/insulin resistance and would love to know how my sugar and A1C is now. I haven't had to take it since then. I checked my sugar for 3 weeks after surgery and it was perfect. Is this too much to ask of their office? My PCP said she would do some research about what blood work I might need, but I thought I would ask you all - what should my PCP order? Doc Sanae, can you help? If I go Tuesday, she can have the results for my appt. on Friday. I hate that I am taking things in my own hands, but I have tried to get my surgeon's office to talk to me, but it's just not happening.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Thank you, Edie. I will write that down. I just know that I need to get it done and I really don't feel as if I should be the one pushing, but I have always heard that you need to take part in your healthcare.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | no i know that but my surgeon doesnt do bloodwork. at all. not even the b12 shots. nothing. so i was saying i only get the bloodwork done every 3 mos by my pcp...im guessing genmel's 3 month visit is with her surgeon and they dont do bloodwork either? i dont think you shoul dhave to push for it. anything you need should be at your disposal because this is serious business. on a side note: im having a hard time with my pcp though and am thinking of switching. we are not on the same page with the b12. |

| Super Moderator | You should get a complete blood work done. The blood cell counts, all vitamins, iron, calcium, plus blood sugar, A1C, lipids, thyroid, if you had thyroid issues before, protein can be measured, too, so that might be a good idea too, and liver and kidney function as well, just to be on the safe side, since this will be your first lab done post op. For the data that you have from your pre op tests, compare them so there isn't a great difference pre and post. Even if the pre and post are both within the normal range, if there is a drop from the higher level to almost the bottom of normal range, there might be something there.
