| Protein?
My nutritionist says I'm should have at least 71 grams of protein per day. Is this really important to lose the most weight? Somedays I maybe get in 50 or so. If I get in at least 71 grams or more will my weight loss increase?

I too push for 60 grams a day and have been very fortunate that I dont have to do a whole shake since I use the Prostat. I have also started drink the FF milk which gives me the Protein and liquid requirement.

I wish there was some kind of diet already set out for a person to follow their first 12 months. Should would make things a lot easier.

The required minimum amount of protein is set at at least 60g per day for gastric bypass patients, because there are a number of "essential amino acids" that we need to get from outside sources to build our bodies and keep fit. Protein is broken down to provide material for maintining our body functions, and these protein are built by our body from amino acits--some of which we can make within our body, but there are lots that we have to get from the outside word because we can't make them. To be on the safe side that we get that protein, the number of grams is suggested.
So, yes, you need to get as close as you can to the recommended amount to keep your weight loss going without losing your muscles (which is the furnace for burning fat) .
The 71g number provided by the nut for knm is most likely calculated from the RDA (required daily amount) and the projected weight in the future which is why it's turned out higher than the at least 60.
As for a set diet, for one thing, your taste changes so drastically, and what works for one person doesn't work for another, and what kinds of food you do well also differs, so, a set program probably would be more confusing. Better to go by your pouch and learn through the figuring out to be able to keep the weight loss throughout your life.

My Nut says I need 80-90g of protein daily. I really try but I don't think I make it. I was never a person to spend the whole day eating so this eating every 2-3 hours is kind of weird for me. I know we need it and I was aware of this before I had surgery so i'm not complaining.

I still have a hard time eith the protein requirement. My doc says 65gms. It is really difficult for me as i really do not like meat. chicken was always my favorite, but that doesn't seem to sit well with me and the smell of most fish makes me wanna gag. So, I eat tons of yogurt and cottage cheese, colby cheese, etc. I did buy 3 boxes of those 64gm shot things, but have yet mustered up the courage to try one. My 21 yo son tried one and the look on his face was horrifying!LOL I have to go to Las Vegas next month for my convention so I hope I can learn to like them because when I am in Vegas, eating is the last thing on my list of things to do!!

what ya'll are also forgetting is that the MIN. required of the 60grams per day ....
with the bypass you are NOT getting that 60 grams absorbed...think about it.
each person is different in amounts and what they absorb so that is why in my own personal opinion the protein should be higher the further you get out to keep you healthy.
especially if you start doing a higher rate of exercise at all you have got to push that protein UP.
