Default 2 week liquid diet pre-surgery

Hi all! I haven't been on much lately. Just got back from Jackson Hole Wyoming...wonderful trip. Prayers to Ms. Vickie, I know she is going come back kicking and screaming!! .....anyway my question

I start my pre-op liquid diet on October 8th. My surgeon's office recommended Low-carb Slim Fast. I bought some of those but, WOW, they're expensive. Is there any alternatives? The want low carb, high protein. My caloric intake shoud be 900 calories a day. Help.....thank you.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

HMMMMM...I couldnt handle the taste of the Slim Fast, so I went with the Atkins version. I know a couple of people that were using the Walmart brand version of it as well.

Atkins Nutrition Advantage Points: 15g protein, 4g fiber, 1g sugar, Excellent source of 24 vitamins and minerals, including Calcium, Antioxidants and B-vitamins, 160 calories, 0g sugar alcohols

you could get zero carb isopure shake mix from gnc. and you can use that post op as well. i think the vanilla is the only one that is zero carb and the rest are "low carb"...whatever that means lol!

good luck

I was unable to do the protien that my surgen wanted me to do because it made my pouch feel auful but these shakes Frendly told me about you can get them at wal-mart on sale as cheep as $2.99 for 4 shakes but i have seen them as high as $7.99 They are great and worth every penny my fave is the dark chocolate YUM!YUM! but they also have strawbarry YUMO! and vinnila and regular chocolate. there realy great if they dont help ya now mabie after surgery hope i could help.
For my liquid diet I did medafast shakes they cost about 50 dollars a week and you can order them of the internet i got them from my surgen but you drink 5 shakes a day each shake is 90cal it has all the vitomins and minerals your body need and you drink all the plain water you want. on this i lost 40 pounds in a little less then 5 weeks. but with the medafast there is NO FOOD! just another thought

For the last 10 days my doc required Impact.....could only order it from Walgreens online. It was a hundred dollars for thirty of them. They supposedly enhanced healing and reduced infection. It is the only highprotein shake I could stand the taste of. I would mix one vanilla with a chocolate, so it wasn't so chocolately. But, for the first 4 days I had the choice of many high protein things, one of which was sugar free Instant Breakfast. This is fairly cheap and tastes much fresher than any of the canned things. I had to drink 6-8 of them a day though. Maybe this is an option. I still drink them rather than the protein shakes....which I can't stand.

I used Carb Conscious (Low/No Sugar) CArnation Instant Breakfast (powered with Non Fat Milk) but also made my own using Protein Powder. You can get real creative and keep the cost down. It also helps stave off the boredom with liquids. Good luck. Remember, you can add protein powder to soups -- just blenderize really good and you can eat just about any soup -- I know it saved me during my two week liquid pre op!

I start my liquid only diet on Oct 8, too. I have to do it for one week as my surgery is Oct 15.
My doctor wants me to be on the Carnation Instant Breakfast with no sugar added. I found mine at Wegmans and Quality Markets (but you can go to the Carnation Instant Breakfast website and enter your zip code for stores near you that carry this product) Each pack I have found runs $4 to $4.50 per 8 pack

They have 3 boxes to choose from, French Vanilla, Milk Chocolate and a Variety pack that includes the vanilla and choc but also has Strawberry Sensation. If you buy the dry packs you get 8 packs, if you buy the premade, you only get 4 for the same price as the 8 dry.

I have been instructed to add 1% milk, not skim. The packs alone include 4g in the choc, 3 g in van and strawberry of fiber, 7g sugar, 12g carb, 0.5 fat, 5g protein. I am allowed to have 5 to 6 shakes per day for the seven days.

Check with your doctor to see if this would fit into what he wants you to do. Good luck to you

I have never seen sugar free Instant Breakfast, the only thing I can find around here is the No Sugar added. Guess I will have to check out the website!
