Default Wierd question

Ok this is a wierd one. Maybe some of the veterans who are out a ways or maybe even Doc can help.

Does having this surgery and not always getting all the vitamins and nutrients we need cause any problems with peoples teeth. I know wierd question.

Just got back from the dentist and it was just a cleaning. Well they told me I had a cavity. I couldnt beleive it. I have not had any cavities in years. Maybe over 20 years. I am not a sweets person and never have been. So I was totally caught off guard when they told me I needed to come back.

Was just thinking on the way back. Do you think because we dont always get all the right stuff now with our eating that it could cause teeth problems. Just curious.

Very bummed now that I need to go back and get the drill. Im a big baby when it comes to that kind of stuff.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

awwww.
i think it could definitely be a possibility. calcium and what not plays a part in the teeth i would guess. someone posted about teeth a while back. cant remember who. (my memory is for the birds these days...)
i actually had to have a wisdom tooth pulled because it got a cavity way down under the gum. never had tooth problems before. i chalked it up to coincidence but you could be onto something here...

i would think that it would, if your hair can fall out...... then i don't see why it couldn't effect the teeth..... Did you ask the Dentist? Maybe he/she could tell you something you could do/take to help.
sorry you have to go back for the drill,,,,,,,, yuck

Funny you should ask that. I have a dentist appt. in the morning for a tooth that was filled last year. It feels like I have a cavity under the filling. I've been wondering the same thing about the vitamins since I made the appt. a month ago. I will ask and let you know what he says.

Calcium plays a part with healthy teeth, but there might be something else.
I haven't run across this thought anywhere as a theory or whatever, but here's something that crossed my mind.

As you all probably know, cavities are aggravated by certain kinds of acids that melt the surface of our teeth.

Now, with rapid weight loss, a lot of ketones are produced, so that many of you notice a *wierd* taste/breath due to the ketones. Well, these ketones can be easily transformed into acids, so, that may be what is happening in your oral cavity, which is compounded with the lack of calcium as well.

Also, calcium deficiency may not show up as blood lab numbers until the stores that supply calcium to our body has become low. In other words, so long as the stored calcium is above a certain level, the blood level of Ca may be normal. However, in the meanwhile, to keep it at a normal level, Ca in your bones and teeth may be slowly depleted.

Just a thought here, but a possibility.

This was a question i asked in my very first post acutally along with hairloss. I had alot of dental work done and got my teeth in really good shape after a while without dental insurance. My cousin who had this done 2 years ago this month has actually loss now a total of 4 teeth. Now im not going to say it come from this surgery but it all come together at the time. I think she had dental disease before with gingivitis which can make your teeth fall out if you dont have it taken care of. She was also a big puker. That cannot be good for the teeth with the stomach acid comming up.

Most denist are just now becomming educated in this area. I want to look at this like when your preagnent. You know how much you have to care for your teeth when your pregnant because of the calcium.

I did see my dentist yesterday and I asked him about this. He said he doesn't see why the surgery would have any effect and so I mentioned vitamin deficiency, etc . but he still didn't think so. I'm not sure I trust his answer.
