|  My first, but probably not last, dum Question Can I ask how long it took for those of you with insurance that covers the surgery, from the PCP referral to surgery day? I know there are probably lots of differences in insurance. I have Kaiser here in the SF Bay Area. TIA, Bear

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | My doctor suggested the surgery to me in June of last year and started my 6 months supervised diet (which I gained weight during). I was hesitant to proceed though, and waited until March this year to contact the WLS at Baylor Medical Center. I went to their seminar and sent in my paperwork to meet with the surgeon and psychologist. Saw them and they said I was a good canidate. Sent my paper work in to them for submission to the insurance compmany in April and was approved sometime in May. My son was getting married in July, so I put the surgery off until August. To make this long story short, It took less than a year for the paperwork and approvals. I had been thinking about the surgery long b/4 my PCP suggested it.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Well honey there is really no easy answer to this one. Most of the wait is because of insurance reasons. Found out what the criteria is from them to pay for the surgery. That will tell you what you need to know. In a ball field figure in a normal wait its gonna be about 3 months. Alot wait 6. Then again I have seen people come in see a PCP then a surgeon the next week and have surgery the following week. The main thing is not to give up in the process. I started this 7 years ago. Really went head on with it in March and was approved in May. |

My surgeons office gave me a date pending inusrance approval and then I think it was the next day or two days later and I got a call that I was approved. My surgons office did all the paperwork and preperation and it worked. Good luck.
