Question Pregnancy

This question came to my mind, I wonder when can a woman get safely pregnant post-op? without affecting on the surgery.
I know that with loosing weight the chances of getting pregnant is more likely higher than pre-op. I heard from my surgeon that there are many women who optted to perform the operation just for that one goal "getting prenant".

For my lil family my hubby and I are planning for 2 more boys (2 girls X 2 boys). This will be my ideal family. But I'm planning on loosing 60 kg = 132 lbs first coz my problem with my previous pregnancies was not the baby carriage as much as the long tough painful labor (>21 hours!!!) get pregnant again. Then finaly do plastic surgery for a breast lift, get my arms, hips and thighs fixed I hate to go under anesthasia again
This will probably be in 3-4 years time from now. Wow I can make long run plans hehehe I'm impressed

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

MY doctors suggests we wait till the HONEYMOON PERIOD of loosing is
over before getting pregnant which is 18 months. After that time is far
healthier for baby and mother.
GOOD LUCK and may all your family dreams be answered!

You should try to avoid pregnancy until you are at goal, and it probably would be better until after you have gotten used to your "maintenance" diet, the diet to keep your weight at goal. When you do get pregnant, you will need to keep close watch on what and how much you are eating so that it is healthy for both you and your baby. I think the kind of diet we prescribe to diabetics who are pregnant would be a good example for you to follow, because it is just that, a diet to keep the patient's weight under control, while getting all the nutrients needed for the baby.

I have recently read that pregnancy of WLS post ops afte often healthier than that of non-ops, because the post ops are very conscious of healthy eating, while normal people often do not care, or realize that need.
So, in that quarter, you don't need to worry, it is no more difficult than with non-ops.

One more thing, though, be careful because pills are often not as effective during your weight loosing phase, you will need to use alternate methods to avoid pregancy during this period.

Wishing for you that your family dreams come true when the time comes.

Question

Thanks Lisa and DocSanae,
Ok one more question. DO you know if the IUD is effective during WLS?
Mine is a 5 year time lapse, the hormonal one. I had it last January, 2006.
I wonder if with loosing weight IUD loses it's effeciency or maybe get dislocated?
Thank you

Most surgeons and gynecologists reccoment IUD for WLSers. You need to consult your gynecologist, but it is possible that it could get dislocated with the fast weight loss, so you may need to be checked more frequently than usual.
The reason pills often do not work well during your losing phase is that the absorption from your digestive tract is unstable. However, with IUDs, the absorption shouldn't be affected that much, so theoretically, it's effectivity shouldn't change. Again, consult your gynecologist.

well, my surgeon says no pregnancy until 2 years after surgery.
good luck on your family dreams, hope having 2 boys and 2 girls works out for you when the time comes.
i want children but will be waiting until the 2 year or even longer period. the one thing that does scare me about being pregnant however long after the surgery is the possibility of gaining back all the weight i lose.

You know sweet birdie that I lost weight with my second pregnancy more than when I'm not! in fact on my ninth month I gained 5 kilos = 11 lbs which was the baby water and the plcenta. Regular pregnant women they gain weight 10-15 kilos = 22-33 lbs.
So honey don't worry. You have no idea how kids change the house atmosphere to a peice from heaven they are God angles on the earth. They are so adorable I can eat them with honey and cream hehehehe.
May God grant you all your wishes soon. My heart and my prayers for you

Hmmm, Chuppy, here the obstreticians will go at you if you gain as much as 10-15 kilograms. The present day preferable gain is 7-8 kg, because on the average, the baby is around 3kg, the placenta 0.5 kg and the water 0.5 kg, so the total is around 4 kg, That plus 3-4kg is the upper limit. That's approx 15-18 lbs total. Don't gain any more than that when you have your next baby post op!!

Well, it used to be OK to gain as much as 10kg, but studies have shown that with too much gain, you are in danger of developing complications during pregnancy, so the number's come down. And of course the common notion is different with different cultures. However, now that your are going to lose your excess weight, of course you won't want to gain any extra weight with pregnancy, and will want to be able to get back to your goal weight quickly, it is better for YOU to stay at the 7-8kg level.
