| Kidney Stones/Infections Question
Has anyone heard from their surgeons that if you have ever had a kidney stone prior to surgery that you have a stronger chance of getting another after WLS? I had one back in 1996 and had Lithotripsy done and never had another problem at all. Now, I have this pain in my lower back on the left side that comes and goes and can not get into the urologist for over a month. AUGHHHHHH! Maybe I should talk to my PCP when I go in next week for my B-12 shot, instead of just waiting around for my appointment to come around with the urologist.

Kim,
I'm pretty sure they did say something about a greater chance of kidney stones with the RNY. I'd call your surgeon, he might be able to check things out for you before you can get to the urologist. I hope you feel better!

i have some friends (2) that have had issues with stones
post op and had to have the Lithotripsy. Both
had stents put in first which is annoying and painful
till the Lithotripsy. they did
have issues with stones pre op.
I dont have these issues, so cant speak from my
own experience.
good luck!

oh this would be a big hell yeah on this on.
I've had quite a few episodes and think about it...if we are always on the verge of dehydration...we absolutely HAVE to push the water more if you already know you have kidney issues.
With the stressors this past month of 'bad' anniversaries coming up, the past 2 funerals..I have one trying to go on in my right kidney..I'll get that pain and start getting night sweats and if I start really pushing my water it'll pass. But man I feel like crap when it's going on!!!
definitely SEE your doc!

Hey kim a fellow co-worker who is 3 years post op had kidney stones just about 2 months ago. However I am not sure if she had them prior to weight loss surgery. I can ask her. Right now she is out of the office at a conference till Monday but I will ask her if she had them prior. Hope you feel better soon.

Oh, ouch.
Yes, talk with your PCP and surgeon. You'll have to push your fluid intake too.
There are some meds that can help relieve the pain some, if the stone isn't too large.
Hope you can get to be seen ASAP.

Thanks guys...I left a message for my surgeons office today. I usually dont get a call back until after 5 though. I have been drinking cranberry jiuce (watered down) and taking AZO Standard. It varies though, some days I am absolutely fine and others it is there throughout the day.

I usually have that pain when I am constipated as well. Just wanted to throw that in there. But my friend, who had this surgery like 2 years ago, is constantly battling infections with her kidneys.
