Hi ya'll! I'm 3 weeks out today and since the surgery, the incision on my lower left abdomen has been sore. This is where the "flat" tube was hanging out for a week before the doc pulled it. I've had some tenderness here, but not really a big deal. Sometimes when I twist or turn without thinking about it (moving the top half of my body w/o moving the bottom half at the same time), it pulls the muscle very hard and it hurts. Even when I sneeze! Yesterday and more-so today, the achey, pain feeling has gotten worse. It actually feels like a charley horse behind that incision and through my back. I've done some walking, hoping to stretch it a bit, but that didn't help. I called the doc earlier (I have an appt tomorrow to see him) and the nurse said that it was normal, it just takes time for that muscle to heal. I'm sure it sounds weird, but I'm hoping someone has an idea of what I can do to make it stop hurting. |

This is where my worst pain was...and took the longest to heal! I was told this is where the BIG stapler went in, and yes, they have to stitch this muscle back up! Hopefully, all is well.....! |

Well, at least this is normal. It's so weird how different this surgery effects each person. A friend of mine had the surgery the same day as me and she hasn't had any pain. Oh well. Patience I guess is my biggest friend right now. Thanks for replying! |

I agree with Boots. I had a horrible pain in my back right behind my incision. I used a heating pad. Also when i get in the shower I let the water spray on the spot that hurts me. It does make a big difference.

Thanks! I just took a shower and had the heat on it for about ten minutes. It did help alot. I will definitely get a heating pad on it tonight. I went back to work today and although I sat most of the 12 hour shift, I'm so sore. I'm supposed to take patients on Monday and I just don't think I'm ready. On an up note, I saw the doc again today and I've lost another 3 lbs. Not what I was hoping for, but I'll take it! He's encouraged me to try fish (I don't like at all) or at least deli sliced turkey. So for lunch I had about 3 bites each of turkey and mashed potatoes. I was stuffed all afternoon. I even tried some deli chix on the way home and I couldn't get more than 2 bites down! Now, 3 hours later, I'm still full. Thanks for all your support! |

Im glad it seemed to help. Im with you I dont like fish. Well let me take that back. I like deep friend fish you get at resturants like Long John Silvers etc. Im not a fresh fish fan and never have been. Im the same way with turkey. The only way I like it is cooked like for thanksgiving dinner and I have to know who cooked it! My sis n law turned me off turkey many years ago after we got a half frozen bird for dinner. You just had surgery honey and your back at work doing 12 hour shifts? My goodness. I feel for you sweeite I really do. |

Angieblu, I have a question for you.... our surgery was 3 days apart, and our beginning weight was exactly the same.... have you hit your first stall yet? I'm panicking right now.

Christy, Um, last week when I went to see my doc, I had only lost 3 lbs that week and I was very discouraged, but he told me to settle down. It will all come off, I just need to be patient. This is one thing God did not grant me! I had realized that I wasn't eating much at all, so I decided to try to fit more food in and when I did, I lost 2 lbs on Thursday and 2 more on Friday. Eating more food consisted of a serving size of tomato soup that took me 5 1/2 hours to eat! But, I ate it. And I added saltine crackers and an individually wrapped, reduced fat, mild cheddar cheese slice. I cannot eat the whole thing in one sitting, but it was delish! I haven't hit a stall yet. The last two days have been hard for me, though. I haven't been able to get very much food in at all. Today I ate three bites of mashed potatoes, and a half of saltine cracker with half of cheese. When I tried to eat a sf fudgecicle tonight, I threw it up. I drank a bottle of water last night before I went to bed (not smart, I know, but I get it any time I can get it in, ya know?) and I had no problems. But I feel like there's not enough room there and I really don't want to have that scope run down to dilate it. I know it's not a big deal, I was just doing so good. The only thing I can tell ya is to be patient. The weight is going to come off and just like anything else, it will do it in its own time frame. How is your diet, appetite? Are you eating solids yet? I'm afraid to try most things. I hate the way it feels when it just sits in my chest. Hang in there! angie |

Hey, Angie: Thanks for the reply. I was three weeks out last Friday and I have been stalled for 2 weeks. Everybody says not to panic, and I'm trying not to. As far as my appetite, I have been able to eat just a little, but no, I'm can't hold a lot at all. I tell my husband, I get so aggravated because I will try to sit down with the family and eat dinner, and then three or four bites later, I'm playing with my food because I'm fool. Everybody says to be sure to get in enough protein, so I have found these low carb, protein shakes at Wal-mart by AdvantEDGE. They come in different flavors, but the chocolate is the best. The small ones are 11 oz. and I sip on that throughout the morning and in the evening. That's my breakfast and dinner. I have been trying to eat baked fish for lunch. It's the only meat I can have right now and it's very light and easy to get down. It's full of protein too. I'm never hungry though so I have to remind myself to eat. I guess you're right. We just have to be patient and we will make it through this together. I'm glad I found someone that is at the same stage as me so at least it's somebody to go through it with you. Know what I mean? Well, you can send me a private message anytime you want to and we will keep in touch. Thanks again for responding. And keep up the good work, you're doing great!!!
