| Question about sodas
I had the sleeve and other than esophageal spasm am doing fine 1 week out. Problems today with a stomach ache. Had a small amount of diet soda and it seemed to even out. Have heard that soda should be flat or avoided. Any words of wisdom? For me it seemed to settle the uneasy queasies.

If soda seemed to settle queasiness, then you may be having trouble with acids.
Keep in mind that acid reflux seems to happen more often to sleeve gastrectomy patients than R-en-Y bypass patients. Ask your surgeon about your stomach pain, and whether you need to take something to control the acid.

well of course this is a no no for some surgeons not all.
MY surgeon has this on my post op no no list
so i dont do. I know early out it would have hurt
my pouch.....
i still have not done diet beverages also because
around the time i had my surgeon all those studies
and articles came out how the diet sodas trigger
eating....and dont help people.
SO i steer off them and actually they are so loaded
with chemicals and for the most part i try to eat
healthier now !!!
soda post op is debated.
BUt being my surgeon says no
thats enough for me

I have not had soda or "pop" as we call it here since the day before my surgery. And I sure could drink diet soda before hand. Sometimes 3 a day. But havnet tried since teh surgery and you know what I dont miss it. Water is it now and its amazing to know how much I drank of it before. Its a lifestyle change and like Kim said, I am afraid if I went back and tried it I could get hooked again.

Well I went back to my "bypass manual" that the surgeon gave me at pre-op. I says that there have been no statistics that say soda is bad for you pouch or sleeve, but that it may make you feel gassy. He even gives some recipes for shakes made with soda - although he does caution to let it fizz out a bit. All I know is that a little soda - and I can't drink much - sometimes settles my longings and my stomach. I am seeing the surgeon in about a week and will talk with him again about this and let you know what he says. If anyone is interested in the shakes made with diet soda, let me know and I will share. My surgeon has given quite a variety - even one called Root Beer Float!

Well, that is good news for you then. LOLOL I know that I can not have it at all...that is a BIG NO from my surgeon. Like it has been posted by numerous people, all surgeons are different and you should follow what your surgeon suggests. Just be careful wth it and remember that they key is moderation.
