I munch on sunflower kernels ever so often....no more than a couple of tablespoons at a time! They are HIGH in the good fats (mono/poly)...and not so high in saturated or trans fat. I chew them to a mush before swallowing...I've experienced no problems with them!

I've had cashews and almonds since surgery with no problems -- just chewed them to goo before I swallowed, but went down well and as others have said, they are good source of protein and the "good" fats that we need. As for portions, just go with what the label says -- you never get a lot anyway due to calories, and that serving size on the package should be just enough.

Yeah, I love the lightly salted p nuts and a small can of them can last sooooo long now that I end up throwing them out. The chewing of them is the hardest past, I feel as though I am making "homemade pnut butter"! LOLOL
