  |  What do I take to the hospital? Simple enough question, right? What should I take with me to the hospital? Do you only wear your hospital gown? Can you put on PJ pants after the surgery? What about underwear once the catheter (*cringe*) is out? Slippers? Socks? Aside from the stuff to just keep myself entertained (magazines, books, etc.)...what do I take? Also, what do they do about medications I'm already on like birth control, allergy and asthma meds, etc? I need to continue taking these so how are they given to me and how will I continue taking them once the surgery is done? |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass  | I thought I would care about all that stuff too, but not so much..... I agree about the lip stuff - whatever you like. My nurses let me brush my teeth often to get rid of they yucky dry mouth after surgery - I was npo (nothing by mouth) til my test to make sure I had no leaks but they did let me brush and do a swish and spit. I wore hospital gowns as it seems easier for them to check you and you dont want to stain your nice stuff. Comfy lounging pants or pjs should be fine for going home in. I had on my binder which soon became my best friend so no discomfort from the pants. I enjoyed having a nice smelling lotion to pamper myself. I basically was on pain meds so much I mostly slept. Oh, and time your pain meds when you leave the hospital - my goofy hospital sent me home in major pain and when I asked for meds they said "sorry, you're discharged" so I was stuck for an hour getting home and waiting for the prescription! Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | lip stuff, slippers and whatever meds you are on now. they will monitor and tell you when yo take your current meds. slippers so you can walk up and down the hall. dont bother with that overnight bag stuff. you get a gown. they wouldnt let me wear my own pajamas so my bag as wasted LOL. best of luck.

Who knows ask that question. I agree with the Pj Bottoms. They like for you to wear there gowns so they can get to you better or mine did. Chapstick yes. Even when you think you dont need it. |

| I was just concerned about the pj bottoms (and they're just bottoms...not the top so I figure they can get to what they need anyway) because I'm shotting for surgery late December/early January so it'll be rather cold in the hospital. Thanks for the chapstick reminder! |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Chapstick forsure - I spaced it out and didnt have any. Luckily my DH went out right away and got me some - what a hun! It was a life saver=I am not a big chapstick user but boy oh boy i globbed that stuff on like it was going out of style  I brought slippers and something else that I just thought about that my DH picked up at walmart while I was in. I got to shower after day 3 I think and he went and got me some Shampoo and body soap. The hospital stuff didnt look very "nice" - wouldve been fine but after sitting for 2 days without a shower a nice smelling soap in the hair and on the body did wonders and made me feel like a million bucks! Thats my tid-bit - hope it helps!

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I had a bag packed and didn't use anything but my tooth brush - paste - hair brush and slippers to walk the hall with. I didn't have a catheter and was up walking the afternoon of surgery and was discharged by noon 2nd day post op - They gave me any medication I needed in the hospital - I used my underwear and a muu muu to come home in as anything elastic bothered the one scope hole. I wore a pair of crocs the whole time I was there because I didnt want to wear the sicks they provided (feet confinement issues)~LOLOL. I also took a lap blanket and a small pillow which I used against my belly for coughing. |
