Default Rice ?

Whats the story with that stuff ? Ive been dieting since June ... getting ready for my sergery...minding my own buisness ...then I have 1 cup of white rice with a little bit of soya sause on it ! Then..not even an hour later I get cravings like you woundnt believe !! My wife starts locking the cupboards...putting a chain around the refrigerator ...I was almost out of control as far as the cravings went ! Hell ...even the dog started growling at me in fear that I was going to take his food !!! LOL I always thought rice was a diet food...its just plan evil !! Any body else have a problem after eating rice ?

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Talking THAT is sooooo FUNNY!!!

Jerry...
You are cracking me up!!

I don't really know the "deal" with rice....
But...I do know that the process that creates the difference between brown and white rice is called milling. The variety of rice may be identical, but milling removes the husk from the grain and turns the brown rice to white.
When removing the outer (bran) layer, milling alters the nutritional value of the rice. It is in this bran layer where most of the nutrients are stored. White rice is composed of mostly carbohydrates, with the nutrients stripped off in the milling process.

I'm sure you know that carbohydrates are broken down into sugar inside the body. While carbohydrates are a good source of energy (about 4 calories per gm), too many carbohydrates can lead sugar imbalance. Carbohydrate consuming is also addictive...which may be what you are experiencing.

Brown rice or wild rice is a better choice when wanting rice. But then...another thing with rice for you, as as future WLS loser, will be to stay away from it for at least the first 6mos. PostOp. - although, I did eat a sugar-free Rice pudding for my 'rice fix' b/c in the pudding it is already expanded - not to hurt my pouch. (But...whatever you do - FIRST AND FOREMOST you should follow your surgeons guidelines...but some doctors say first 3mos...but I'd push it out to at least 6mos....)
Reason Being - rice expands in your pouch.... so while your pouch is healing your doctor wants you stay away from the stuff so you don't put too much in your new pouch and stretch it or damage the healing that may be taking place in those first months of healing. Also, you will not want to 'fill up' on carbs...but to focus on your proteins.

Oh ya...some starches do that to me. It sounds like it's a serious "trigger" food for you. Probably best to stay clear.

i just would think its a carb and some of us have carb addictions and it dont take much to get those cravings kiccked up to high gear.

I will say post op many surgeons tell us no RICE because it will expand in the pouch and cause discomforts!

Hey Jerry......well since I am post op rice is vudu to me. I accidently had some once when I ate some meat from my daughters chinese food and it bloated up in me so bad and that was just a tiny amount. I also know tht early out Kenya had an issue with rice too. They say to stay away from it.
But like the others say I think you were like that due to carbs. I am like that with carbs. Just one sets me off and I am on a bend. Its very hard. So I really try to stay away from them. Must be something really triggered it with you.

It's like pure carbs, 37g in a cup according to nutritiondata.com. That's a LOT! I'm noticing that I react the same way when I eat too many carbs - I was on a real bender last night. Say goodbye to white rice.

You know the old saying eating Chinease food will make you hungry a hour later. Now that is a old wives tale im sure but my little brother whom is a very big fella himself has the same trouble. He eats at a chinease resturant and on the way home buys a Whopper for later? He has always done this. He said he feels starved after eating rice. I know post op its a NO NO. My sis n laws mom ended up in the ER thinking she was having a heart attack 6 months after WLS after eating 3 teaspoons full. I love rice personally just like you eat it. My hubby cooked some last nite with chicken and that was the first time I wanted to eat what they had for dinner but eat my own food instead because I knew what was gonna happen to me. It probally is the carb thing. I dont have a problem with carbs or I dont think I do. Isnt it so strange....... how we notice how foods react to us once we pay attention to it?

I agree. Carbs are evil. I think they were sent straight from the devil to keep us off track. :-)
