| Super Moderator | Dumping basically will always be an issue, as it is the result of the smaller stomach--your pouch, and bypassing part of the gut resulting in the shortening of the digestive route. I have put up an explanation of what it is and why, here.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | from statistics i have heard..... 40 percent of people do not dump after bypass surgery 60 percent do. I have not tested the waters with the treats as i have said over and over on the board. I do know that fatty foods cause me some bathroom trots and foods at times dont agree with me.... not sure if it helps

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I have the same problem with fatty foods. I ate a couple of my grandkids fries and was sick and in the bathroom for the rest of the day. So obviously I don't do that again. Without thinking at Halloween I took a bite of a white chocolate reeses that my nephew was eating and same results so no sugar for me either. I only eat things that use Splenda and even then not a lot.

| WLS Mentor | thanks for all of the info. very helpful, like i said i don't plan on doing sugar for a very long time after the surgery but was curious. here's another question that Roo pointed out to me. i have explained dumping syndrome to him, the dr. says i have ibs, when i was going through a bout of that (before the problem that i had with the meds), a couple of weeks ago Roo pointed out that it seemed like i already had dumping syndrome. so next time i see my dr. i will of course question this, how do i know which is which if they both have the same symptoms

| Super Moderator | Simple. First, check and see how high your blood sugar is, say, 30 minutes after a meal, so you have an idea of how it is, soon after eating. (Of course, I mean, when you are post-op) Then measure your blood sugar when you have the symptom. If the blood sugar is low, it's hypoglycemia. Even if it isn't low enough to diagnose hypoglycemia, if it is lower than usual, it's probably reactive hypoglycemia. Whether you had sugar/sugar alcohol or anything that includes more carbs than you usually take, will also be a hint. What Roo has pointed out as you have now, is more likely to be hypoglycemia, because you are taking diabetes meds, and your digestive plumbing is still normal. Though, sometimes, the difference is not all that clear, actually.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Wow....Dumping is NO FUN!! I've only dumped one time...and it wasn't even on something fun...it was on liquid Tylenol!! UGH! I knew that not everyone would be blessed with Dumping syndrom...yes, I do say blessed...I prayed that I would have it - because I knew that it would keep me from SWEETS & CHEATING... So, on my first day home when I started my first episode...I was soooo ill...but eventually I was thankful that I had it!! ....and.....I haven't Cheated either!! lol.
