Hey Rachael.......One thing is for sure is that our tates do change after surgery. Its the wierdest thing. Things I really liked or didnt like are totally different now after surgery. I dont know what spicy foods would do. I would think once your post op a while it may be ok. I am just about 7 months post op but then again I dont really like spicy things. So I am not much help on that.
And the dumping issue. WEll knock on wood I have not dumped yet and I hope not to. I am just about 7 months out and so far so good. But everyone is different. I was told to stay away from the surgars and sweets and they kinda scared the crap out of me during all the prep work leading up to surgery. So I am deathly afraid of putting it in my body. Plus I just feel so good now that I do eat better. But I know others who can dump off of carbs and etc....I hate to say it but its just a trial and error thing with each person.

Racael once again knock on wood I only threw up once and that was my first day in the hospital and that was due to the morphine they had me on. found out I was having a reaction to it. So I threw up once or twice right after sugery but other than that in the past 7 months I have not. Like the others have said, everyone is different. Its all trial and error and take each day as it comes. ITs a roller coaster ride this journey.

I haven't had the dumping sensation yet... I am waiting. I have had the foamies once when I ate too fast. I have taken Frank's hot sauce to my chicken puree a couple of times with no problems yet. I am frankly getting sick of chicken and tuna fish!

I think that again anything in moderation as long as our pouch agrees with it is fine. I think that you need to allow your pouch to heal first, dont want to introduce harsh foods to it in the healing process. Want to be as gentle as possible early out. You may even find as was said above that your tastes change after surgery and you may not even want it.....Everything with this surgery is trial and error and you no longer have a say in what agrees with you your pouch rules now. lol...

Oh, Lovie - thanks! I practically live off chicken now. Always have - love it, but ONLY with hot sauce
Well, not really, but there are just times of the month that I just have to have hot sauce with my chicken (and practically everything else).
So the pouch will rule - well, I say LONG LIVE THE POUCH!!!
Thanks guys. Barfing I can deal with, but that dumping, the sound of that is pretty awful. It would scare me so bad!!!

Yeah, never dumped here either! Just eating too fast or too big of a bite, I had to yak it! But, you know, the "yaking" isn't the same as before if you eat too fast or too big of a bite. It never even reaches your pouch. So, no acids or anything. I eat spicy occassionally. I have a VERY easy pouch, it likes anything. The problem is, you never know how it will react until you get to that point. Sometimes I WISH I was a dumper, to keep me in check always.

I seems there are various levels of dumping. I get nauseated, sweaty and feel miserable for a couple of hours, but that's it. Of course, I haven't eaten really high carbs yet either so I may be in for a surprise. LOL
Love spicy foods and haven't had any problems. Frank's hot sauce, chili, the middle of tacos and enchilladas, yum!
I threw up once about two weeks out from eating too fast. I'm kind of glad I did because I stopped worrying about pulling my staples after that. I figuered if they held through all the hurling then the're good and strong. One interesting thing, there's little to no stomach acids so vomitimg isn't nearly as nasty as it used to be. It's more like a baby spitting up.

That's exactly how I feel about throwing up, it is kinda like a baby spitting up. I always call it "Yakking" because you just open your mouth and there it is. I was never much of a puker before, but when I did, it came from my toes. This is nothing like that!
As far as dumping, I never did until last week, two days in a row, and it was on stuff I had eaten before (Mashed potatoes once and salad the other time) I have had both several times with no problem, you just never know.
I don't have a problem with hot sauce, but everyone is different. It is just trial and error, Good Luck!

Well, I have only dumped once, and will NEVER do that again, if I can help it!! I just have to smell sugar and the queasy feeling is there! And, it does keep me in line. I do puke often - at least a couple of times a week. Usually, it is because I ate too fast or didn't chew a piece enough. It comes up fast and, remember that the food hasn't digested at all so it will come up basically as it went down (looking like chewed up food). If I ate too much, just throwing up the last bite or two helps.
Hot stuff - I have never ate anything really hot (before or after surgery), but I always could tolerate medium hot without a problem. Don't try anything spicy though, until at least a month to two months after surgery - you want your pouch to heal nicely. In the beginning, it is better to eat fairly bland and work your way up a little at a time.
Hope this helps!
