Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Soon i will be allowed pureed meat/poultry/fruit/veggies. My question is-- where does ham and pork fit into this? Is it counted as a meat or more like poultry? Anyone have any problems with ham (also deli meats) and pork or even hot dogs?

| Super Moderator | Does your list have detailed info? If not, it's best to call your surgeon or your nutritionist and ask, as different surgeons have different protocols, and there'll be drs who say okay to something that other drs say no to.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | my list is very basic-- just says "meat/poultry" and "fruit and veggies". i assume my nutritionist thinks this might be enough details - i am trying to learn what/how to eat all over again. I love my doc- he is the best... but I have a long list of questions (they pop up just about every second!) and so i dont want to frustrate him.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I had ham in pureed stage...it was thin sliced deli meat and I pureed it with some cheese and a squirt of lf miracle whip....it was like a ham/cheese sandwich w/o the bread!! It sat VERY well and was a welcome change to the bland stuff I had been eating on full liquids!! Ham or pork will is in the meats catgegory...I've heard some people cannot stomach ANY pork post op! |

| Super Moderator | If you have any Qs, don't hesitate to ask your dr, especially since you are still early out. No Q is too stupid, or too many to ask, and it is better to be safe than sorry.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I have had Ham. I bought some of the Gerber baby foods that are all meat. I added the ham to some cream of potato soup and it was pretty good. I had no problems and it tasted great. I topped it with a little LF cheese. However, last night I tried a little tuna and it definitely did not agree. So I think it all depends on the person. It wil be a while before I want to try tuna again. You definitely do not want to see that twice ![]() I like to make a little fat free refried beans with grated LF cheese on top and a little hot sauce. This hasn't bothered by pouch at all and it helps with my cravings for something spicy. If your doctor approved both meat and poultry, I would think pork is covered. When you get the okay give it a try and see if it agrees with you.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I put a shoulder roast in the crock pot and cooked it all day with BBQ sauce the first week after surgery. I pureed some of it for me and it was sooooo good. I now eat canadian bacon for breakfast, sometimes real bacon, deli ham with cheese rolled up in half of a tortilla shell. The only thing I haven't tried is pork chops - those tend to be a little tough (at least the way I cook them, sigh). |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I have no problem with bacon. I have also had pork tenderloin with not much problem. Although I have never been a big meat eater and my grouhy pouch tends to send meat right back upa t me. Just make sure it is moist.
