| How did your SOs, friends, and family
How did your SOs/partners, friends, family handle all the burping, barfing, and pureeing? Did it gross them out? Did they find it to be a hinderance? Were they upset/embarrassed by it (I have a 15 year old - so he is upset an embarrassed by everything so that is nothing new LOL).
Anyway, how did they cope with all this? Do you ever get back to where you can sit down at the dinner table and eat a "normal" dinner with them (I don't mean all the same foods, but not have to eat separate foods).

My husband has been great with all the puking, farting, eating different and all the time it took me to heal up enough to feel better and have energy after the surgery. My son is 16 and he has always thought I was strange, he is a definite introvert and I am an extrovert. But he laughs at my gassy nites, I have to threaten his life not to tell all his friends about it! As for my eating different, they have been eating better too and both have lost some weight, I don't cook too much food anymore so nobody overeats! I am a very cheap date now, can't believe the bill when it comes now, we both laugh!

Thanks! I've already been telling my son that when I do this, he will have to eat more healthy too. We are practicing now. He is taking a cooking and nutrition class in school (looking toward gormet cooking next year, followed by cullinary arts the following) and he is actually looking quite forward to it.
He had so many food allergies when he was a baby (milk, eggs, soy, peanuts, wheat, nuts, peas, beans - not green beans, but dried-type beans- fish - and probably some I didn't list). He has outgrown most of them. He has trouble digesting milk sometimes, but no longer has an allergic response to it, just an intolerance - same with eggs. Nuts and fish they say he will never outgrow.
Learning to deal with that was quite an experience, let me tell you.
I don't live with my boyfriend (yet - planning to when we retire, but that is a few years off yet LOL), so it isn't much of an issue, but I don't want him to find me totally gross (though if he doesn't find me gross now like this...) but I don't want to gross out his family when I'm with them either.
I know it isn't about him or them, but like I said, I wouldn't want them to be grossed out or upset either.
But as far as friends go, I don't have any, so that isn't a problems. LOL. Well, that isn't true. I have one friend who is SO excited I am doing this that she said I should just do it and not even think about it. YIKES!!! Like that is really good advice.
I think somewhere midway between her and my boyfriend is a happy medium. |

my husband has been my rock...he learned my limitations and works hard to work around them!! We still go out to dinner etc....he knows I will be SO much healthier in the long run, so the ummmm....side effects are just logistics to him...all in all, he had reservations, but I think he's really glad I did this!
my 18 year old son thinks I look weird (he's always known me to be fat...thinks i'm old, and how on earth could I decide to be small again LOL) My daughter is so self centered right now, she could take it or leave it LOL (she's 13)

TrulyKath, you are trulyLUCKYKath! My boyfriend is so dead against this, I could see him being almost mean about it, saying it was my decision, that I have to live with it now, this is what I get, etc., and not being helpful at all. But of course, I always assume the worst. LOL.
Again, I'm not doing it for him, but some support would be nice. I just wish my weight wasn't such a touchy subject with him and we could talk more openly about it.
However, when I totally changed my eating habits, excercised and did hypnosis, he was always really careful about fixing me what I wanted and shopped for what I needed (yes, he does the cooking for me - at his house). But then, he wasn't dead set against that.
Ughhh. Dealing with him will be worse than dealing with the insurance company.

Thanks - I'm upping my treadmill time to 1-1/2 hours and want some more sessions with the personal trainer I was with (but she is really expensive and things are a bit tight right now). There is also a class at the gym I want to take, but I'll have to see if I can get a schedule adjustment because it is at a time when I am working. But it is important.
Ooops, and speaking of filling my time, I have to go now to run my son downtown for his activity.
Thanks!!

| Hi Rachael! My DH has been waiting patiently for me to take charge of my health forever so he has been quite supportive. My kids are pretty much oblivious - I havent had major issues and typically dont do anything shocking in public - it's not like a baby that hurls across the room suddenly (thankfully!!!!). I hope your bf comes to grips with your decision, it will be easier if he supports you. My best friend was pretty freaked out about it but when it came right down to it, she was there supporting me completely. Maybe he'll come around. Has he gone with you to any appointments? support groups? My doc requires you to bring a SO or friend or family member to at least one meeting. That may help him understand where you're coming from.
