I had my rny 10/23/06. Before my surgery, I was regular, and had a BM every morning. Since my surgery, I have suffered from contipation leading to fecal impaction about 5 times (thank God I'm a retired RN and know how to correct it), and hemorrhoids 3 times (ouch)! I get sufficient calories I get enough fiber to make 2 grown men proud I drink plenty of liquids I exercise reqularly I do not go but every 2-3 days and only after taking benefiber. And then, omg, someone call the plumber the septic tank needs to be drained again! The characteristics of the stool has changed too. It has the consistency of we, heavy clay and stinky (not that stool isn't anything other than stinky). This has got me worried. I worry about having to take fiber even though my diet has a lot of fiber. I worry about the volume, the consistency, the odor, etc., especially since I was so regular before & there seems to be nothing I can do about it. I tried to do research, but it all seems to address issues I don't have problems with. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what to do and ideas on what could have gone wrong to cause my bowls to quit working. |

I addressed this same issue on Friday with my surgeon, but he kinda thought I was not getting enough water, I do though. Then he said it could be my antidepressants, but I have been on them for years and never had this problem with them before. So he told me to go ahead and use a product like milk of magnesia ect. to help me go, I bought the Smooth Moves tea that has been suggested on here, havent tried it yet, I will tonight.

BM changes are quite normal for WLSers, actually. Take a look through the index of this forum--Stupid Qs. There are plenty of posts that deal with this. Some posts appear in the gas issues, so be sure to look through both.

I second the Miralax. Its really helps alot. ITs a white powder you can add to anything you drink hot or cold. REallys works well. No taste or anything. Good luck. Ive been in your shoes and it isnt fun. It does get better. I still get bouts of it but not as bad anymore.

I haven't had the STUCK problem, but the ummm...form is DEFINITELY different. I think it has to do with the drastic changes in our diet..hardly any sugar, starches etc! I do notice...when I'm stalled, once I'm able to go...the stall unsticks...what's up with that !?!?!?! I normally drink 75-100 ounces of water a day....so I'm know I'm getting plenty of fluid! I may try the miralax to see if I can get it more "regular" (& help with the stalls).... Do you take it every day? Is it a laxative (as the name suggests?) |
