Default Here is a stupid one

I can only wear 14K or 24K gold in my ears, even surgical steel cause them to get icky and infected.

That isn't gonna happen with surgical staples, is it?

Yeah, I know, wait 6 months until I see a surgeon and ask. But I want to know NOW!!!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I can not nor could I ever wear earrings because of the same problem...but I did not have a single problem from the staples. It was the surgical TAPE that messed me up! Go FIRGURE!??!

This is gonna have to be a question for DOC. I had no staples on the outside. Unless its open surgery I dont know if you will have them or not. The staples they use when cutting your stomach its self..........I have no idea. I would ( THINK) there made from somthing that desolves? I dont know DOC your gonna have to help me with this one. I will look this up myself for the internal part.

Rachael & Vickie...I had about 3-4 staples in each little incision. They were no problem at all and I was TERRIFIED when they came at me with the "decleater" to remove them! But I didnt really feel anything but a sudden urge to want to scratch the area.

When I had my gallbladder out I had staples and they were fine, my sutures gave me a fit.

Mine were real stales, I had 5 of them. I did not have any problem with mine. I was scared to death to go and have them removed and it didnt hurt a bit. Im sure Doc will be on to help out later.

I didn't have ANY staples on the oustide...but I know there were plenty inside......! I'm the same way with the earring thing....but to my knowledge, the surgical staples don't bother me...or is that what's making me itch after 3 months?? LOL

It depends on what the material of the staples are. I'm not a surgeon, so I'm not exactly up to the latest, but I thought the more recent ones are low stimulus, and titanium ones are around that are less of an allergen. With alloys, it's usually the nickel that causes trouble.
Also, it might be that you are allergic to latex, so you end up having reactions to the residue of latex that is left on whatever after being handled by latex-gloved hands.

In any case, let your surgeon know the issues you have with metals, and he'll see to it.

Thanks everyone. I had forgotten I even asked this. Yeah, I was concerned about the staples on the inside and yes, I'm definitely allergic to nickle - and the tape does a number on me too. But I'm not allergic to latex.

Anyway, this was just one of those weird thoughts that ran through my head. Didn't want a bunch of little staples getting angry inside of me!

Wow! I didn't know there were so many people who couldn't wear earrings!
