5' 6" Height: | When I came out of surgery, I was numb at the top of my butt, both sides. The left side came back but the right is still numb. I have been rubbing it to try to get circulation going. Well now its all red and looks sort of like a pressure sore. I have not touched it for 2 days, its dry and should be all right. The question is has any one else go through this after surgery. I realize it is from laying so still during the surgery. I showed it to my bro & sis in law (he's a crna and she's an rn) He called the hospital so it was documented in case anything develops as a result. Then my doc. called me and wanted to know why I didn't let him know about it. Honestly I thought that if the left side would wake up, the right side would too. I told the staff during my stay at the hospital about it and nobody seemed to think anything of it. I can't see my butt in that area so I wasn't too concerned untill my family saw. Now I feel bad because I've made trouble for the doc. I just want to take care of the sore and have the numbness go. That's all I was trying to do. Sorry for carrying on...but did anyone else go through this and what helps aside from putting as little pressure as possible on my butt? Thanks once again, Kat |

| Super Moderator | AWWWW, ((((((HUGS)))))) I hope you and your surgeon are on better terms now. No intention of scaring you, but if the numbness is still around, it may be from a slipped disk that you didn't know about before, and the bed rest immediately post op brought on the symptoms. Ask your surgeon if he thinks maybe being seen by an orthopedic surgeon would be a good idea. If a slipped disk is at fault, as you lose weight, the pressure may be relieved and the numbness go away, but if not, some form of treatment may be needed after you reach goal. Keep your doc updated in any case, to prevent future trouble, it's best to badger your surgeon with any little concern, since that's part of the deal for them, and it keeps them on their toes, too. ((((((HUGS)))))))

| I have been experiencing something simular only it is on my right upper thigh. I asked my surgeon about it and he said that some of his other patients have brought it to his attention but eventually it has gone away. I don't have any redness, just a numbness that will occasionally just down right hurt. Weird. I hope that you find out what is causing your numbness. It is frustrating... Let us know...ROBBIN

| Super Moderator | Hmmm, Robbin, your numbness also may have to do with back issues, if you have had any pre-op. It is possible that you may have a slipped disk, too, or it may be something else, but if it persists, and there's pain as well, maybe you should talk about it again with your dr, and ask if he thinks an appt with an orthopedic surgeon might be a good idea. 5' 6" Height: | The sore is getting better. It never started weeping which is very good luck for me. I'm keeping it dry and try not to put any pressure on that spot. It is, however still numb. We'll see what happens. I see my doc on 5/9. I too have a strange thing going on with my right outter thigh. When I sit or step a certain way I get Shocks of sharp pain. It doesn't happen often but it feels like an electric current. I never connected that with the surgery but it started happening afterwards. I just figured being out of shape and putting extra pressure on my legs getting up and down did it. Who knows...maybe it did. I just want to heal and move on. Still feeling better about everything. Just some bumps in the road. Thanks for all you kindness and support. Kat |
