Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I know I haven't posted in a while. I do keep up with what is going on with everyone. Just don't have much to say... Anyway, has anyone else experienced an extremely heavy period that seems to last forever after surgery? I have had the heaviest period I have ever had for two solid weeks with no end in sight. When should I start to get worried and call my doc? This is really getting old fast. Thanks so much. |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | since the hysterectomy, I don't have to contend with this, though I've worried that the hormone replacement keeps me from losing (I'm on a estrogen/testosterone mix)...I know there will be plenty of ladies along to offer advice here! |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | My cycles have changed so much. I use to be every 28 days to the day and I would say they were average periods. Well starting at about 3 months post op things went a different route. I get them sooner now and man are the first few days heavy. Very very heavy. And the clotting is soooooo bad. But my gyno did say that things would change and I guess he is right. Dotn like this but heck if its a trade off from the old me I will take it I guess. Mine dont last long like you. I am 5 days but the first 3 are super bad. Maybe somone else can offer some info. |

| Super Moderator | When was your last appt with your gyno? If not relatively recently, then get a gyno check, anyway. You owe that to your body and health. That said, because of the rapid loss of fat, estrogen stored in the fat will be released, which will make your whole hormonal cycle wacky to the extent that hormonal contraception become ineffective, as I have stated in another recent post. Heavy periods to seem to be the norm, but it can be aggravated if you have fibromas, so if you've been diagnosed with them before, be sure to check in with your gyno. There have even been cases where post ops who had thought they had hit menopause see the return of their monthlies. Probably the biggest problem you may find you need to deal with, even if the gyn findings are normal, is that you may develop anemia from the excess bleeding, which will be an issue because your surgery has already made you susceptible to VB12 deficiency and iron deficiency which also leads to anemia. So, be sure that your VB12 and iron levels and your blood counts and hemoglobin levels all are good.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | yep and its important to address it if you doo my heavy cycles that i have had post op are most probably the cause of my ANEMIA and there really bad (on it right now) so bad i cant go anywhere. Derfinitely address it with the gyn before you go anermic. YOU didnt have this surgery to need iron infusions ur entire life so if you straighten them out you wont get anemic like i am and it stinks im always fatigued big time! good luck i was also put on prescription iron until my periods are straigtened out. was the suggestion of my sugeon!

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I wondered about this as well. I had my surgery last Tuesday. I started on Friday (early by 1.5 weeks) and it is heavy as ever. I do have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and fibroids in my uterus and was told that anemia would be a problem and to up my iron, which I have done. I'm not really worried, I'm just told by the RN from the center that all should resolve itself as the weightloss slows down.
