| Gas And Your Intestines
OK, i went to the Doctors yesterday for my one year follow up. I talked to him about my gas problem ( i have gas all the time, and it is the smelly kind) anyway, i asked why i had it so bad, what i could do, etc.... he started telling me, and i can't remember word for word but this is the jest of it, that if they don't leave enough small intenstin the food doesn't have time to absorb everything and that if it didn't clear up they may have to go back in and do some repair surgery.. but that would be the last resort, he said that sometimes this condition can clear up on its own as the intestine will stretch.
Has anyone else heard of this?

never heard of surgery for it, bu one of those crack pot websites that tries to convince you not to have the surgey did say smelly gas was a "complication" i laughed. because to be honest i'd rather walk around "tooting" then in the condition i was in pre-op...unless of course there is pain involved. are you in any pain?

Gas is a fairly common problem among bypass patients. It can be due to the shortened route, but it also can be caused by things like changes in diet by getting in more fibers to ease constipation, lactose intolerance, and disruption of the intestinal bacterial flora (which happens often after taking antibiotics) among other things. If there is nothing wrong with your digestive system and bowel movements, personally, I would not worry about it too much.
I know CraigT still has gas occasionally, and he is 10 years out. There was an occasion when I was across the room from him , and he apologized, but quite honestly, I didn't even notice, and told him so. I know a lot of you have family members complain when it happens, but then, actually, passing gas is healthy.

i will add here yes being able to pass the
gas is better then when its stuck
and causeing horrible pain in the stomach.
I know a few have gone to ER thinking something
is horribly wrong. I know for me for those painful
boughts i have had to turn to GASX to ease many
times and never had this pre op.
just a small price to pay to look fabulous!
HUGS
SORRY its so bad for u

The shortened route is what they talked about, GASX they will actually counter-act what i am trying to accomplish, as it isn't that i have gas pain, bloating, etc, it is that it just happens, i can eat nothing and it happens. And yea, i would much rather live with it rather than have another surgery, but it is very difficult. i just took on a second job to help with the christmas season and it is working with the public, so far i have only had one bad episode, it was just so very embarrasing!!
thanks for the input, much appreciated.
