Question The Colonoscopy didn't work. Another question.

In the end of the other colonoscopy thread, I said I had the procedure and Dr. was unable to get past one half the transverse colon because I was in such pain. Apparently I have adhesions from pelvic surgery that isn't allowing the colon in the pelvic area to give like it should. The GI doc wants me to have a barium enema. He said from what he saw, all was good except for one diverticulum which is expected for someone my age. The screen I saw was pretty and pink.

Now I am fully awake and alert and my brain is functioning at max capacity. (that was a GREAT nights sleep, btw. LOL)

I am a radiologic technologist...I take xrays for a living. I have done hundreds of barium enemas on obese people and frankly the pictures are crap, no pun intended. I am not afraid of the procedure. I just don't want to go through all that trauma and radiation when, post surg, it would be as much of a "breeze" as it could possibly be?

Will the bari doc NOT do surgery without the GI clearance? I am not stupid. With 2 close relatives with colon cancer at/after age 60, I know what I have to do, butt...well, you know.

Thoughts? and Thanks.

Judijo.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Bless your heart!!! After all that to not get the desired clearance is a pain! Check with the surgeons office - maybe what they did is enough? I did my mammo yesterday - not bad - my tech was great so it wasnt so traumatic! waiting for results.....

Well...... to be honest I didnt know they made you do a GI to have it done. The upper one yes. Most of that is the surgeons wants. Perhaps call and ask your insurance if that is a requirement then ask the Gastric Surgeon.

You do need an upper GI clearance, the surgeon needs to know about your stomach since he is operating on it.
Lower GI is arbitrary. The surgeon may want it to be sure that he won't find anything extra, Yes, you need to confirm with the surgeon and insurance about this. If it's at the surgeon's discretion, then he may agree to go ahead so long as you promise to have it done post op.
