I am 8 days post op and I still have diarrhea and gas. Will this get better. It is not too bad, but certainly not something that will be socially exceptable once I begin to mingle again.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Gas seems to come and go.
Diarrhea may be due to lactose intolerance, or sugar alcohol intolerance. Keep in mind that sugarless something ususally has sugar alcohol instead which sometimes causes the runs.

It takes a while for things to even out, keep in mind you're on a liquid diet. My WLS buddy here at home warned me about this pre-op so I was prepared. As you add bulk to your diet later on it will get more and more normal - unless as Doc says its some kind of intolerance -- I have avoided the sugar alcohol thing as much as I can coz I've heard of it giving people a good case of the runs.

Yes it will even it self out later. I know some here suffer from gas pain still but not me. I have never really had that issue. Mines burps ! LOL. As for the diahrrea most of us suffer from bouts of constipation instead. It will all even it self out eventually.

The same thing happened to me. It went away but I called my Doc to make sure. Hope your feeling better.

Well, i still have gas really bad, as a matter of fact, i just posted about it not too long ago.... it is very bad, and i am not sure how i am going to handle it. i was told that surgery was a last resort to make the small intestine longer, and that hopefully they would stretch out on their own, so we will see. but i do know that right after surgery it is a good thing to have gas, but not a year out like me

It took about a week and a half for me. I still am gassy but have more control over it. Walking is the best cure, gets everything moving again. Are you walking 3 times a day?

Hi TGG, I am 5 1/2 months out. Gas is not a prob.(TG), but I had awful diarhea from the get go and when I called my surg, two days after being home, he said I should not be having diarhea because what little I am eating needs to stay put for a little while at least,so he gave me an antibiotic in case of a bug, also peptobismol and imodium. It worked for me and as ALWAYS check with your own surg. for advice.....just giving u my story............................GL Kathy
