Default blockage

Hope this doesn't sound like a stupid question but how do you tell if you have a blockage. I'm not sure what's going on I might just have the flu but this is the first time i've been in so much pain. I had my surgery August 2006, had my gal bladder removed at the same time. I've lost 176 lbs and have been feeling pretty good. Am i beyond the point where i have to worry about blockage. Is this just the flu and I should tough it out. Just don't know what to think because it hurts so much.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I've heard about people talking about gas pains that nearly did them in....could be gas....?!?!? Maybe you should check in with your doc, just to be sure!

If you have had any abdminal surgery (which you have) you can have a blockage ANY time, no matter how long out you are. Just having surgery, any surgery means that there will be at least some adhesion, which can cause a block when the intestines get twisted around.
If you are in pain, and especially if you are you need to call your surgeon.
So, yes, as the others say, contact your surgeon ASAP.
Better to be safe than sorry, and no, there is no stupid question, every single question is very important.

Oops, forgot to say, welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.
Congratulations on joining the Loser's Bench, and on your wonderful weight loss.
((((((HUGS))))) May your journey go well.

When I saw my surgeon I asked him the same question and got the same answer (thanks Doc ) I thought the further out I got the less likely it was to happen, he told me that it was a low risk of having the complications but that I should be aware of possible compl occurring, even a few years out.

Are you throwing up EVERYTHING THAT YOU EAT? Can you keep liquids down? If you have body aches and fever, you prolly have the flu. Just wait a few days, if you're still getting sick after you eat definitely call.

Not to scare you, but if you are having a lot of pain and you MUST call your surgeon ASAP no matter how long out of surgery you are.
Fever can be caused by a million things, not just flu, and if you do have blockage you will likely run some sort of fever ranging from low to high, depending on the severity of the blockage.
Also, if it is a block or twisted intestines, waiting a few days can be fatal in some cases. If there is both pain and for more than half a day, you should be seen by a dr or at least get in touch and ask what to do. If you are a number of years out, and have been released into the care of your PCP (some surgeons will follow you once a year for life, others will release you from their care into you PCP's hand after a year or two), then call your PCP and ask, and make a trip to the ER if necessary, or can't get in touch with someone who will see you ASAP.
