Default what will I feel like RIGHT AFTER surgery??

Hello Again...
My insurance company finally approved my surgery for January 9th.. Now with the date rapidly approaching I am getting nervous and have a million questions dancing through my head{along with the sugarplums the season brings} LOL... anyways what will I feel like after the surgery?? I am having the gastric byapss done laproscopically. will I be in a lot of pain or discomfort? Will I feel nauseous?? tired? And what is the pain in the left side I often hear about?? I keep telling myself since I am a constant ball of energy I will just bounce back in a day ..probably not gonna happen!! resting for me will be the hard part... Did I mention I single handingly do a housecleaning business?? I dont have time to be down and outThanks again for always answering my stupid questions!!! Jen

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I did not have alot of pain. I was on pain meds. for only a few days at home. I was fine after that and you just have to take care of yourself. You have to rest and be careful not to lift anything heavy. You have to sip sip water so you do not get dehydrated, that is very important. I never threw up at the hospitol and I always felt good at the hospitol and I did lots of walking at the hospitol too and when I got home. I walked right in the house from one end to the other end to get my walking in. I only threw up 3 times and that was one time becasue I was determined to get two of my pills down one right after the other and I think one got stuck in my tube and once I threw up I was fine and the other two times was from food that did not agree with me. Another thing, your food likes will be different. I use to love chicken and canned tuna, or I should say any kind of canned fish. Well that is not the case anymore. I do not care for any fish canned. Chicken is slowly coming around again for me, but not the fish yet. I am hoping down the road that will change. My throwing occured in the first month and ever since then I have not thrown up since. I am terrified of throwing up just the fact before surgery I was also terrified to throw up and that is maybe why I am so careful to really chew my food and if I try a new food I only try a little and my stomach will tell me right away if my pouch likes it or not. So I know when to quite right away. So I hope this helps you somewhat. But your doctor will tell you what to do and your nutrionist will be a big help to. But to talk to people who are in the same shoes as you is alot of help, becasue we all understand what you are going to go threw. The date of your surgery is right around the corner and then you will be on the losers bench. See you there.

Well I just had surgery this past Wednesay. You have to understand that they cut thru the abdomenal muscle to get to the stomach so that accounts for the soreness on the left side. I have six incisions. They range from the left side to the middle of the abdomen. This will take time to heal and you can't lift over 5 lbs for a period of time in order to avoid hernias. So no tugging or pulling to hard on stuff. As far as nausea...yea I had that at first. The dry heaves are not pleasant since they pull at your insides and my surgeon said he did not want me to have any since it was not good for the staples in my stomach. They kept giving me something for the nausea and it was wonderful, not phenergan, so it did not make me sleepy. Plus they give you pepcid in your IV to help with any acid so the tummy can heal better. Had some gas pressue on my tummy which was uncomfortable, but by Friday eveing I was feeling much much better. Today I did some light house keeping, being careful to not overstrain or pull. I am sore and it is hard to bend over, but I figure the soreness will be better in a few days. I have not taken any pain meds since Friday afternoon after a dry heave episode. My morphine pump had 25 mg and I only used 14 from Wednesday to Saturday when I was released.
Hopes this helps you. You know the first couple of days I wondered if I had done the right thing, but now...I know I did. Good luck on your jouney!

Its gonna depend on you. I will worry about you going back to work to fast since you do the housecleaning yourself. You will need time to heal. Everyone reacts differntly to this. Some have pain. Some dont.

I was not in alot of pain. I walked out of the hospital 2 days later and was fine. I would say I was sore but not in pain. However, I agree with the others, I dont know about going right back to work. I was out for a month per my surgeons orders. I know alot of people go back sooner but you do need time to heal and get your energy back. Best of luck with your surgery.

i too walked out of the hospital with no pain....i got the pain when i jumped the gun and went back to work early. i wish i took the extra two wees to be honest. because at home i was in a prone position a lot and felt GREAT, that didnt prepare me for sitting upright at my desk . i would think you shouldnt return early if you can stay home take the time to learn your new body and way of eating before venturing out. but everyone handles this differently. best of luck to you.

Wow! Exciting news, you don't have much time to wait!! I personally had a small amount of pain right out of the OR, did not use my pain meds much in the hospital, not even through the nite, they came in and unhooked me for something and didn't hook me back up and I didn't even care much less notice. You have to be very careful not to lift or strain, and keep hydrated, that will help with energy ssooo much. I would think that if you could get a couple weeks off, do try, your body will thank you for it. Driving is something my surgeon said not to do for 10 days, all surgeons are different though. I never used the vicodin that he told me to get either, just wasnt any pain at home. I had 5 little incisions on my stomach, they are stitched on the inside so you dont have any stitches on the outside, just strips of tape. I personally was pretty worn out for 2 weeks, and slowly got back to myself, it took about 6 weeks for that. Getting all your protein and vitamins are a great help for healing and having energy. Hope I helped some!

The biggest surprise for me was how exhausted I was. I usually bounce back very quickly from illness or injury so I thought I would do fine after the surgery but I just couldn't find any energy for the first 4 weeks! If there's any way possible, give yourself at least two weeks and I would suggst four.

Yes, I too walked out of the hosp. in no real pain, and I had open RNY, but......u say u r a ball of energy....do yourself a favor and lay low! I was rite outside the first day home picking weeds because I thought i felt so super. NOT a career move so to speak. I ended up with a visiting nurse to help me "behave". You just need to give the body a few weeks at the least. Hope all goes the way u plan......Happy Holidays.......................Kathy
