| Hair Loss
Hi everyone,
I'm starting to get really worried about my hair loss. I had surgery a little over 5 months ago and I've lost 110.lbs of my weight in total so far. But, everytime I wash, comb or brush my hair a whole lot falls out. I'm afraid that if it doesn't stop soon i'll go bald. What can I do to make the hair stop falling out? I drink and eat enough protein an I take my calcium and multi-vitamins. Please Help!!!!!!

I take Biotin every day but sorry to say that I dont think there is a magic cure for the hair to stop falling out. I thought the same thing as you when every day there would just be so much coming out in the shower and comb and etc......It does slow down and come back in little sprouts as i say. The Bitotin I heard is more for re-growth. I know its scary but it does slow down. Hang in there.

About all you can do is relax and it will stop. Stress adds to hair loss so try to relax with it and know it will grow back soon

I am over 6 months out and my hair situation has not improved. Of course, I had thin hair to begin with, so losing any has really hurt me. I too take Biotin and use Nioxin shampoo and scalp therapy. I also have nioxin gel and follicle stimulator stuff. I have cut my hair the shortest I have ever had it in my life and try my best not to think about it, but this hair situation,by far, has been the one negative in all of this. BUT I KNEW IT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN, SO I CANNOT COMPLAIN THAT MUCH. I really just consider it a speed bump and this too will pass. I empathize with everyone dealing with hair loss. All I can say is experiment with new shorter styles and talk to your stylist. Mine has been a life saver. I will try to post pictures tomorrow, so you can see just how thin my hair is. Oh yeah, I also suggest not using heat products anymore and washing it less. My hair's texture has even changed - it used to have some curl - now, it is stick straight. Odd, huh?

I had a friend who had a similar experience after surger, and her doc asked her if she was eating ANY good fats. She had pretty much completely cut out every fat gram from her diet. He told her she needed to eat a certian amout of HEALTHY fats every day, (like from nuts, olive oil, things like that...) I'm not saying this is your situation, but it might be worth looking into. She said that once she started eating a small amount, her hair situation got better...

I agree with Genmel, shorter hair hides it better, I keep going shorter and shorter every time. I seriously considered just taking the clippers to it and buying some nice wigs! My surgeons said that the body responds to the rapid weight loss by turning off the things it considers unimportant, trying to make up for the "starvation" it is going through, and hair and nails are on the top of the list. But, it will change farther out, and turn it back on for us!

I'm still a big believer that post wls (unless you are a fats dumper big time) you have gotta have FAT in your diet. When i went round and round with the body builder trainer he and I agreed that I'd try for 2 weeks only the very low fat, high protein to get boyd fat down...I looked HORRIBLE by the 2nd week!!! My skin looked wrinkly in my FACE and like I had bad excema on my face and chest..
Well after that he agreed..fat is better. I'm not talking the fried foods fat which for some reason people always think I mean when i say I eat high fat. LOL.
I don't do the low fat milk or dairy..I eat full fat, reg dairy products, nuts all the time, use a combo of olive oil and butter with my foods that I stir fry.
If I go through a period of high stressors and start eating carby and low fat my hair starts dropping..I take biotin now but I will say like ALL of my vitamins I don't take the one pill of anything.
this is the thinking for ME..I don't absorb it all..so I take 3 biotin a day and if I stick with that the hair loss slows down for me. My body is so touchy anymore, anything sets off the hair loss and I really don't want that going on anymore.
However I will say I hardly ever eat beef, I do tuna, tofu, chicken and eggs.

Tina--- I was just thinking about you the other day and wondering how you were doing. WOW on your weight loss. You are doing awesome. Please post some pics when you can, would love to see the new you.
My surgeon said everyone loses hair at first due to the drastic change our bodies go through. I have been losing hair for a couple of months now. It is slowed a little bit is still coming out. I have been taking the biotin all along. At the support group I go to they all say it happens to everyone. They promise I won't go bald, but I am having my doubts...LOL. They said it would come back in and I would get a "halo" effect. Now I would love to see me look a little bit like an angel... That will be a new one for me...LOL
