Red face Need help with prep

Hi, I'm having GBP surgery on 1/2/08... I am doing my bowel prep New Years Day!! Hows that for a New Years Resolution. I'm wondering how much food prep I should be doing prior the surgery? How much energy did you have after gbp. I will be home alone all day once I am out of the hospital. Should I be blending and freezing protien and vegs? I am told I will be able to eat 4 Tablespoons at a meal max...should all that be protein or should I mix vegs into it (what % protein to veg?). Thanks for your help... I am getting nervous waiting for the big day.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hooray your day is almost here!
I came home on full liquids which are cream strained soups, yogurt, pudding, protein shakes. I also bought water and stuff to have on hand. I have read how many people have taste change after surgery and can relate now. I picked up a huge pack of Fruit 2/0 waters before surgery and loved them...now I can't stand them. LOL So don't over buy stuff you like now, you may not want it afterwards. I did however crave orange juice when I left the hospital and picked up some Lite and Healthy with less sugar and calories, no pulp and added calcuim.
Good Luck, you will be in our prayers!!!

I craved oj too!! I was on full liquids for a bit also, did some protein shakes as it took forever to get in protein - that's the main push immediately post op. I did a bit of diluted crystal lite to help get in my water, really liked propel for a few weeks. Ate some of the instant cream of ckn soup - yummy. sugar free popsicles were the biggest treat = yum! Also ate my share of sf jello. Best wishes to you- what a week!! Be careful being home alone, is there someone you can call to help you if needed?

I also bought alot of food and I bought alot of canned fish and tuna becasue I loved any kind of canned fish before surgery and never in my wildest dreams did I think that after sugery I cannot stand any kind of canned fish or tuna. So I gave my son the smoked oysters because he likes to eat them and I cannot stand them anymore and my husband will eat the tuna and just maybe it will get better later on so I can eat tuna. All the sardines I gave to my dad, he likes them. The kipper snack fish I kept and hoping I can eat them late on, they are really good fish and I did eat one can and I liked the taste of them but the texture was still a little hard to handle yet. So they will have to sit in a corner tilll I can eat them. I tried tangy summer sausage this noon and it just did not agree with me and does not taste like I remember it did. I have a real hard time with processed meats. I hardly eat them anymore I usually make my meat from scartch and that agrees with me the best.

Congrats on your new years resolution. How cool to be starting out the new year with your sugery. Its a journey and what a time to start. congrats to you.
I know every surgeon is different but mine had specific palns for me. I didnt have any proteins or veggies right away. I had slim fast shakes and Carnation Instant Breakfast drinks for protein and also yougurt and jello and etc... Then it wasnt I think for 2 weeks till I moved onto the next stage. Good luck.

I too was on liquids only right after surgery, every doctor is different, then pureed foods, then soft foods. Your surgeon should have a plan for you.

Congrats on your journey for the New Year. I to was on liquids for 2 weeks after surgery, SF jello, SF popsicles, cream soup strained, and protein drinks, then pureed and now soft. But every surgeon is different just follow what he suggests. I'll keep you in my prayers and thoughts for a speedy recovery.
