| Driving?
I was reading other posts and it just occured to me that I may not be able to drive right away after surgery. I'm having it done laparoscopically and I need to take my son to and from day care so I can have some healing time. I am a single mom. Will this be a problem?

| Of course the old addage "ask your doctor" applies, but I think one of the main things is not to drive while taking pain meds. I probably didnt drive for 4+ weeks but I was on pain meds for over 5 weeks. Good question. Is there anyone to help you out? Would your sitter pick up the first week or so?

I too think that no driving was mostly due to the pain meds. Hopefully someone would be anle to help you out for a few days or so. Kathy

My doc said no driving at all for 2 weeks, then he let me drive after he saw me. I hurt for the first week or so I was driving, but I had a triple play (RNY, gall bladder, hernia). If you can possibly find someone to help you take your son to and from the sitter, it's a really good idea.

See, that's what I'm nervous about. I don't have anyone to help with driving him back and forth, but if i don't do it, then I'll never recover with a VERY active 3 1/2 year old boy who loves to take advantage when mommy is tired or pre-occupied (ie. making dinner, on the phone, etc....). I did have a breast reduction done 11 years ago (yes, I was only 20) and I didn't take any pain meds once I was home. It only hurt when I did too much because I forgot about it. Same with my c-section. So I'm hoping I will react slightly the same way because those were both open procedures with major incisions. I've never had anything lap done before, so we'll see I guess! Plus the babysitter is only about 8 minutes away and no thruway driving, so I wouldn't be driving far.

i would ask your surgeon
as they all have different post
op guidelines.
I was cleared for driving
after my first post op
appointment at my surgeons
office after i had gotten out
of the hospitol.\
I am sure the ansswer to this
also varies from a lap surgery
verse an open too

Ask your surgeon, but also explain your situation to him, and see if he'll give you clearance so long as it's just for driving your child back and forth for 10 minutes or so. Even if your surgeon says no to general driving, he may give you the okay on the condition that you stick just to taking your kid to daycare.
