Question Worried I did something Wrong

It has been 19 days since procedure. I lost ten pounds in the first week and my weight lost seem to have stalled. I did drink alot of cold water and protein shakes and wondering if I streched my pouch. I can not find any information about possibly streching your pouch by drinking to much.

I recently had an appoinment with my surgeon and forgot to ask if my weight loss was normal.

Why am I not losing any more weight? Have you heard of someone stretching thier pouch early after surgery?

Very concerned

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

i'm sure it's not stretched. (welcome by the way ) this doesnt come off evenly at all. we hit stalls frequently through out. this is probably just your body adjusting to the shock of the surgery itself. hang in there. you will start losing again.

You only have 43lbs more to go so I'de say you are doing great! Percentage wise I think you're on target. We all worry about that,s don't fret you are doing great.

This is what I learned from Doc. You lose 50% of your excess weight in the first 6 months, 25% in the next 6 months, and the other 25% in the next 6 months to a year.

So if you are 100 lbs over your ideal weight (not your goal weight, the weight all the stupid charts say you are supposed to be) you will lose 50 pounds in the first 6 months. If you are 200 lbs over, you'll lose 100. This explains why those of us who don't have as much to lose, lose it slower.

Also, you just had surgery. Your body doesn't understand what just happened and it's going to try to hold on to everything until you heal up and it thinks it's safe to let go of that fat. Just be patient (I know, that's very hard to do at this point).

I don't think you can stretch your pouch with just fluids. And in this case, I'm sure it's just your body hanging on to the fat until it heals some. Hang in there, you WILL start losing.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I am anxious. I need to lose this weight. I have been suffering from Severe Sleep Apnea over the last several years.

It has come to a point where it is affecting my job not to mention my health.

I used to weigh 220lbs and was only able to lose 10lbs by myself (within the last 4 years). I lost 7 more pre surgery. I was hoping enough would come off within the first month for the Apnea to improve.

However still frustrating it is, I will try to be paitient

Sounds to me like you hit your first stall.. give it a few days the weight will begin to come off again.. I hit the same stall at about 3 weeks and I know many of the others on here did the same thing.

Just hang in and it will come off, I hit a stall at 4 weeks, it is frustrating I know but be paticient I think sometimes we just want it to fall off right away, but you have to heal from the surgery so I think that is why we may hit a stall early. I can out of my stall this week and 5 lbs were gone. Good luck on your continued journey.

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.
Congratulatoins on joining the Loser's Bench and on your weight loss.
Since the total you expecct to lose with the surgery is 58lbs, the going will be slow, especially in the beginning, so you need to be patient.
If you had RNY whether lap or open, it's going to take 3-4 months for your insides to heal completely and regain the functions.
If you had lap band, then you will heal faster, as not as much is touched, but still you may need multipla fillings before the pouch is adjusted accordingly.

You can't stretch your pouch on a liquid diet, it will just pass through. So, when you get to the regular foods stage, you must not drink when eating.

((((((((HUGS))))))) May your journey go well.
