Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | OKAY .... I am just curious how many of you new post ops and futher out folks wear a medical alert braclet? I been wearing mine since the surgery and its says: GASTRIC BYPASS PATIENT NO NG TUBE WITHOUT SCOPE. this is a matter of personal preference! I am eyeing the gold tone one in the e store on the site! HOPEFULLY i can order it this summer when my pay is real nice. Lately all my extra money has been going to landscaping around the pool! SO do you or dont you wear one? or has this thread got you thinking? let me hear ....

Height: | I would like to buy and wear one, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I don't even know what I would need to put on it besides Gastric Bypass patient. Thanks for reminding me that I need to look into it this summer. Janae |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | MAYBE its something u can discuss with your surgeon at a follow up visit. I just choose simple...some add no NSAIDS.......and NO sugar but i didnt think that was so necessary as the no NG tube without scope. Its all a matter of personal preference.

Height: | thanks for the reccommendation. I don't go back to see my surgeon until about December I think, unless there are complications. Is that weird? It seems like a lot of other people see their surgeons a lot more often than me....hmmm. Janae |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | why would I need to wear one? I'm not sure I get the idea. I would understand if I'm a heart disease patient and God forbids I had a stroke in a public area this bracelet will tell whom ever will first aid me that I need that medical attention. But I don't consider myself as a patient, maybe I'm in a denial but this word hurts. Plus I still don't feel that I can open up to all people and tell them that I did the bypass. Everyone thinks that I'm loosing weight bcoz I'm on a protien diet. And that's true I'm trying to eliminate my carbs intake as much as I can. I don't want to be ranked as a looser or as a pig anymore that frightens me to death! :~(

| Super Moderator | Chuppy, if you don't like the idea of bracelets, there are pendants, too, that you can wear under your clothes, so it won't be as public. For anyone who has had major operation that changes the structure and layout of your organs, be it heart, lungs, stomach, liver, intestines, kidneys, anything else, I find it a good idea to wear something that will warn first aid givers of your changed construction. If you are conscious when something happens, fine, you can give whatever information you need yourself, but if you are involved in an accident, say, and you are unconscious and every minute counts, the quicker those involved in treating you have crucial info, the better your chances are. ![]()

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | KAT...a pendentant works well if your not one for braclets as DOC suggested. Wearing such a product does talk to MEDICAL professionals if you were in a state that you could not speak for yourself and others are not around you that know. ITS personal preference but i dont want someone sticking an NG tube down me and the rupturing my new pouch. OUR stomachs are a bit higher then regular folks. THIS is a controversal topic. AND very debated. CHUPPY, I have had in the one years time wearing the braclet only one person ask me why I wear a medical id braclet. SO most probably it will be under your clothes and unscene by many. NO one will see or ask you. THEY come so fashionable too today! lisa ANYWAY i just wanted to rasie though

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | JANAE... yeah every surgeon does have a different protocal for visits post op. I have been to mine over the last few months more then the normal as we are watching and treating my numbness issues. BUT i went 1 week 2 week, one month, 3 month, 6 month and then came in more for the other issue mentioned! all the best.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Hadn't thought of wearing one, but I can see how it would be a good idea. I've seen medics and docs in the ER cram a tube down someone's throat and it could easily cause damage to someone with changed anatomy.
