Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | What is a good recommendation for post op diet? I am about 10 months post op. I've lost 135 lbs so far. I'm 5'2. I'm confused on the amounts I am supposed to eat, like how much protien, veggies, carbs, etc am I supposed to have? Math is not my forte, so I am finding it confusing to figure out grams to actual portion amounts. Oh and what is the amount of calories I should be consuming in a day? Also, what are some good sources of protien? Right now, only boiled/stewed meats work for me. Tuna works. If I eat chix that isn't boiled, it just sits in my stomach. I started eating a lot of cheese and nuts, but the calorie and fat content is so high then and my weight loss slowed. Thanks! Jaime ![]()

| Super Moderator | Have you already reached goal and are on maintenance? Or, are you still in the losing phase, a bit yet from your goal. You see, the answer to your Q depends on which stage you are. Though, from your profile stats, I take it you are still in the losing phase. In that case, what you need is 1) get in at least 60 grams of protein per day 2) get in at least 64 oz (but no more than 100 oz) total in liquids. 3) eat your proteins first, then veggies, then if you have some space left, carbs. 4) never drink while eating and don't worry about anything else, except getting plenty of exercise in. On a side note with meats, poultry, fish etc, approximately 20% in weight of the food is actually protein. In other words, a 100g meat contains about 20g protein. Grams probably is unfamilar to you. so, the conversion rate is, 2.2lb= 1000g, 1oz= 28g. In other words, a 3.5oz meat contains about 20g protein. Also, use online calorie counting sites like FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal for following your intake.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! Finding this site has been a life saver! I appreciate your response and so quick! It's like having you in my home! I did checkout the fit day site. I understand the protein thing now! So basically, I need around 10 - 11 ounces of protein daily. Also, what would be a calorie range appropriate forme? I am still in the loosing phase, I'm at 180, and the Dr. would like to see me around 130. I've come from 314, so I am thrilled to just be at 180! Thanks again for your help! Jaime

| Super Moderator | At this stage, most surgeons and nuts will tell you, don't bother counting calories. That's because, even without counting, if you stick to the basic rules, you'll probably be able to get in no more than 1000 kcals or so. However, if you want numbers just for reference, 1000-1200 kcals is about what you probably will manage to get in at most around this time, and that should be fine for you.
